Starting a short while ago, we began receiving consistent orders containing a
certain part that otherwise had sat in our inventory without movement since we
parted-out the Viking sets some 15 years ago.
I’ve always tried to stay current with the secondary LEGO market in part by using
our sales and as orders are processed. First, by recognizing patterns in our
orders received, to then taking a brief moment to dig into the item/s' availability,
origins, etc... Nowadays, it’s more out of curiosity that I spend any time looking...
If you don't mind, a couple of questions for what in my experience is
an amazing Bionicle knowledge base here on BL:
~ Why are they selling now after so many years of dormancy, and why are
folks willing to pay such a premium for the Dark Blue color?
~ Explanation for the current value of the 'other' set wherein
Dark Blue is found

Likely was used in a popular moc that people are buying
Yeah that was my first thought, having seen niche sales driven by just that over
the years.
I guess what I'm really curious about is what drives these pushes to build
a particular MOC. Is it something that gains popularity via social media or
the like, or are there now larger number of sites that promote this type of thing,
beyond BL that is?
It's the pattern that's got my curiosity. They've always seemed to
come and go in pulses. That is leave as quickly as they appear.

Builders and bidding wars?
At one point it had it all: DC comics, movies, games, books, podcasts. With its
own in-story philosophies and factions and constantly evolving characters.
It was exciting. We were bound to be disappointed.
Greg Farshtey [the George Lucas of Bionicle] mentioned in an
interview that Karzahni was his favorite set because it was the
only set featuring a character he created. -from the wiki
