The reason that the maple leaf is the symbol on the flag, is because it was the
symbol on every service man’s cap badge during both world wars. It is to commemorate
those fallen during these wars.

Scientists at the University of Toronto, Frederick Banting and Charles Herbert
Best, discovered insulin and sold the patent to the university for one dollar.

I have been using insulin since December 17, 1982 so I am very grateful to these
two Canadians, they make up for the Canadian who invented Hawaiian pizza.

Canada is home to the world's smallest desert, the Carcross Desert. Located
in Yukon, this desert spans only 600 meters (about 1,969 feet) from north to
south. Despite its small size, it has many characteristics typical of a true
desert, including dunes made of sand, which is rare in the high latitude regions.
Technically, it's not a "real" desert. The sand is actually a series
of northern sand dunes. The area's climate is too humid to be considered
an actual desert. Despite the cold Yukon climate, the sand can get hot, reaching
temperatures of up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
Oh yah and we got the rhino party
If you want a good laugh look up some of the things they wanted to do for example
They proposed that lottery winners should be given a position in the Canadian
Senate instead of receiving money as a prize. They also pledged to move Great
Britain into Canadian territory and make it Canada’s eleventh province.

Whoops, now I’ve upset all the Americans, sorry guys.

Just something I came across whilst reading something somewhere, hope they take
it how it’s meant, just an obscure fact.

If they don’t, I may have a few problems with my humerus and a few other bones.

It's true: first in 1775, during the American Revolutionary War, and then
again in 1812, during the War of 1812.

Though, to be fair, the United States ultimately defeated Great Britain during
the former conflict.

The people who help Santa with this every year are amazing!

Which makes me wonder, should we revive the holiday exchange this year?

In Canada under zero circumstances do you have the legal right to use a gun in

As per our Right Honorable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Canada’s national animal is actually a beaver.

It played a pretty crucial role in the history of Canada, what with all the fur
trappers, traders, and battles over who would be the fur king of the region.
Then there are the poor beavers themselves, almost hunted to extinction! Well,
at least they became the national animal of Canada in 1975. They’re on the Canadian
nickel, too.

I can think of several longer highways:

Pan-American Highway (30,000 km)
Asian Highway 1 (20,557 km)
Australia Highway 1 (14,500 km)
Trans-Siberian Highway (11,000 km)
European route E40 (8,000 km)

But yeah, the Trans-Canada Highway is definitely up there.

Archie is considered the first Internet search engine. The original implementation
was written in 1990 by Alan Emtage, then a postgraduate student at McGill University
in Montreal, Canada. It was followed by versions named Jughead and Veronica even
though "Archie" is short for archives and has no relation to the comic
strip.

The maple leaves on the Canadian coat of arms are derived from those on the coat
of arms of the Province of Quebec (the arms of Canada were originally just those
of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick - other provinces were added
until the arms were simplified in 1921) and were originally green. Only in 1957
were red leaves adopted.

A snowball once rolled across Canada, scooped out the five Great Lakes, melted
during the coldest point of the last ice age and depleted gravity from the Hudson
Bay.

Hudson Bay area is missing gravity. The average person weighs a 10th of an ounce
lighter than other places. There are theories that explain the missing gravity,
but scientists aren’t fully sure about their theories.

It's theorized that "Canada" comes from the aboriginal word "kanata",
which means village. In 1535, Jacques Cartier was told by natives how to get
to kanata (the village of Stadacona, present-day Quebec) and he ended up using
kanata to refer to not only the village but also the entirety of its chief's
land.

Oddly enough, as regulated by the CRTC or Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications
Commission, 55% of all programming aired on Canadian television annually must
be Canadian content as well as 50% of all programming aired between 6pm and 12am
every day. Similariy, 35% of all music played on Canadian radio between 6am and
6pm from Monday through Friday must also be Canadian made. This aims to give
opportunities to Canadian creators as well as to ensure Canadians can see Canada
represented in the media we consume.

Only one more day to get in on this contest!

So many great responses, I laughed a few times and learned a few things too!

So, don't wait in a lineup, grab your Smarties, or a bag of ketchup chips
and share some Candiana eh?

And if you feel like things are getting you down, head up to Hudson's Bay
and apparently you'll feel just a little bit lighter.

Some Canadian Set questions:

Does anyone have a picture of the Canadian version of this set box?

Does it have a Canadian Flag on the box instead of the Lego flag?

Set No: 357 Name: Fire Station
*
357-1 (Inv) Fire Station
219 Parts, 1973
Sets: LEGOLAND: Fire

How about this one? Does anyone have one built with the Coast Guard stickers
applied?

Set No: 575 Name: Coast Guard Station (Canadian Edition)
*
575-2 (Inv) Coast Guard Station (Canadian Edition)
284 Parts, 5 Minifigures, 1978
Sets: Town: Classic Town: Coast Guard

As you can see the box art looks like they cut and paste (old school photoshop)
the stickers over the US version.

Thanks for participating -- and if you're looking to grab one of those
order-based bonus entries, I'm lowering prices on minifigs this weekend!

Happy Canada Day, and Happy 4th weekend too!

I have the boxed set but from first owner, a Canadian. The box art is the same
as those sold in Europe. No Canadian flag.
In my copy, two stickers of Canadian flag was applied to the Lego flag. Apparently
some or all copies sold in Canada came with stickers of Canadian flag. It is
possible that the early versions of those sold in Canada came even with this
ultra rare flag:

Part No: 777pb02ridged Name: Flag on Flagpole, Wave with Canada Pattern, Ridged Flagpole
*
777pb02ridged Flag on Flagpole, Wave with Canada Pattern, Ridged Flagpole
Parts: Flag, Decorated

Yes!

As you can see the box art looks like they cut and paste (old school photoshop)
the stickers over the US version.

Yes! The worst part is that they used a sticker sheet

Part No: 575.2stk03 Name: Sticker Sheet for Set 575-2 - Sheet 3 (003434)
*
575.2stk03 Sticker Sheet for Set 575-2 - Sheet 3 (003434)
Parts: Sticker Sheet

from set 653 but those stickers are too large for where they are applied.

Part No: 3004pb251 Name: Brick 1 x 2 with Black 'S-21' Pattern (Sticker) - Set 575-2
*
3004pb251 Brick 1 x 2 with Black 'S-21' Pattern (Sticker) - Set 575-2
Parts: Brick, Decorated

I assume my answers are pretty much related to Canada and so, I am qualified
to be considered in this competition!

A fun fact: generally if you order a poutine in Canada, you get fries with gravy
and cheese curds. If you order a poutine in New Brunswick you get a mashed potato
snowball in a cup, with pork inside and you sprinkle brown sugar on top! Acadian
poutine is totally different!

Vancouver is the only province that sort of rhymes with maneuver. Heard in a
song entitled Kinda’ The Lonely One by little known Canadian band The Lowest
of the Low.

...I met an old friend yesterday
He's gone to Vancouver
He just left his wife and kids
What a sly manoeuvre...

In geography / toponymy, “lower” and “upper” are relative to altitude (generally
following a given river), not North / South.

On this map, Upper / Lower Canada follow the Saint Lawrence river.
