Hi, everyone how do you sort your Lego? By color, parts and how do keep them
separate for example a tile or bullion by color?

By part type in a drawer, and then each “shape” in bags in the drawer. Not done
sorting yet, but I’ve been working towards that.

You mean sort or store? When we sort it's by type, brick/plate/tile/slope/etc...
When we have 5-20 pounds of one thing we break it down by part number and run
all of it in to our inventory. As far as storing everything to easily pull orders
from, We bag every part number separately. In some cases we bag specific colors
inside one lot/bag. Everything is cataloged in larger trays by part number, ie:
3000-3038, 3039, 3040, 3041-3099 etc.. minifig stuff, decal and such goes in
small akro mills type bins with a location noted.

An example of our inventory storage. A few bins are 1 part/lot, some bins are
20-25 lots all bagged separate. This is only used parts, new/instructions/minifigs,
accessories/decal parts are stored differently. There is probably 80k parts shown
here.

I sort by color and then by type - plates, tiles, slopes, etc all in different
bags.

If you are sorting parts for sale, then do not sort by colour. Sort by type,
then if needed sub-sort by colour.

Your question is a good example of why this important. Imagine the agony of trying
to pick a couple of black bullion/ingot parts out of a bag of 178 black 1x2 tiles.

If you start out your store sorting by colour you'll have to do it all over
again when you figure out that you should sort by type. Don't ask me how
I know this.
