| Do I pay taxes in Canada on Bricklink sales or is that included in the fees section?
I know some Canadian sellers charge tax and some don't, I want to keep my
prices low so don't want to charge tax if that's already taken care of
on Bricklink's end.
Bricklink says the tax is collected in the fees section but it doesn't look
like it is.. any help?
Thanks

Right now, BL isn't collecting taxes for buyers (like when you purchase something
from another store). Sellers that are collecting taxes are registered with the
CRA to do so. Do not ever collect taxes if you are not registered. It's required
for sellers who have revenues over $30K in 4 consecutive quarters, or for those
who voluntarily registered before that point. For info: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses.html

The taxes that you're referring to for sellers is on your BrickLink monthly
invoice (not related to sales tax that buyers may). Say you owed BrickLink $10
in monthly fees, and you were in Ontario which is 13% HST. You'd see a line
for $1.30 of HST tax for a total bill of $11.30.

I see that you started charging taxes to buyers on May 24th according to your
terms. You'll want to ensure you've refunded anyone you collected taxes
from in error so you don't get into legal troubles with the CRA. If you're
wanting to voluntarily register, you need to do so and have your GST/HST number
ready and included in your invoice templates prior to collection.

Ouch!
But I guess he's registered and forgot to mention this on his Terms, and
is probably already including those numbers in his Invoices.

I would certainly hope that's the case, but the wording of his original message
makes me a little less optimistic... and especially as he's from BC and he
doesn't even have his own provincial tax (that usually sellers from provinces
like BC, SK, QC etc... have an additional PST that they collect for)

Thank you so much! You've answered every question I have. As for my terms,
you are correct that I started charging tax, which I will be spending the rest
of today refunding for those couple dozen orders.
Thank you again! Clearly still new to this but glad to have all the info now.

Glad to hear it and don't worry; it's confusing even for folks that have
worked with taxes for a bit! If you ever have any questions, feel free to ping
me whenever and I can try to help or find any resources that might be able to

For Canada, BrickLink only charges taxes on the selling fees (the 3% (or less)
BL charges sellers for selling here).
See the analogy here: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1412784 (for Australian
GST but that the same). (The rest of the thread only applies to Australia.)
For the Canadian taxes due by your Canadian buyers, it’s up to you (whether you
are registered, whether you have to be registered, etc.).
For the other taxes due by your non-Canadian buyers, BrickLink collects taxes
in these situations only (for now):
— US Sales tax: most US buyers, when they buy from any seller for any amount,
— UK import VAT: UK buyers, when they buy from non-UK sellers for less than £135,
— EU import VAT: EU buyers, when they buy from non-EU sellers for less than €150.
— Australian GST: GST buyers, when they buy from non-AU sellers for less than
AU$1000.
(UK/EU VAT and AU GST are directly paid by the buyer for other amounts. Domestically
(intra-UK / intra-EU / intra-AU), it’s handled by the sellers when necessary.)

I’m hesitating between two answers:
1. The time one reads and understand all the help pages, we’ll be in July
2. I’m from the future!
