| I just found out my oldest cat Sammi has cancer. She follows me around, sits
in my lap and sits on my computer desk when I am doing things. She sleeps in
my arms all night along with the 4 other cats that sleep on my legs and feet.
I cannot move for most of the night because I do not want them to leave. I
care for my cats, especially her, more than anything else except my family and
country. She helped me deal with the death of my 18 year old cat in 2008 by following
me around and insisting on being with me and has always been very vocal when
I am not home. We have a very special bond that is much stronger than I have
with my other six cats that I also love dearly.
I do not mean to use Bricklink as somewhere to lay my ills, but I am not on any
other social media and have a very small family, none of which are in El Paso.
I know that there are many cat lovers here and other pet lovers. This is the
only place to try and share my grief. For all the members that have beloved
pets cherish them as much as possible while they are with you.

I'm truly sorry to hear that you're losing your companion, John.
Always have felt that sense of injustice thats built into the lifespan-discrepancy
between man and his devoted friend, dog or cat. That is to say, we give over
our hearts to these wonderful creatures, often without fully considering their
relative-to-ours short lifespans.
There are several people no longer with us, that to this day, continue to haunt
my thoughts from time-to-time. Among those two-legged souls, is another that
lives on in my thoughts, Oscar: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1153630

John, despite my large stature, I'm such a softie when it comes to pets.
The last time one of our fuzzbutts made her last trip to the vet, I was so relieved
they had such a great staff. I could barely croak out a word, as I was choking
back the tears. I feel for you, and share your grief at what is to come.

| I'm really sorry to hear this John. Among all the domesticated animals cats
and dogs exhibit some of the purest forms of unconditional love, so I get it,
and I know what you're going through - and it sucks.
The single worst day of my life was when we had to put our first dog to sleep.
We never really knew her age, but we had her 14 years and the vet assumed she
was 3-5 when she walked up to our house injured one day. It was the right time
for her.
Putting her down wasn't the worst part though. When we got home our insanely
intelligent and talkative 5 year old german shepherd was on the floor unconscious.
He apparently knew what was going on and due to the stress suffered a mesenteric
torsion.
It's been 7 years ago and I still can't bring myself to get another dog
yet. We're just not ready. I still get choked up thinking about it. So
if anyone tells you "it's just an animal" cut them out of your life
because they clearly don't understand.

| John,
I'm sorry to hear about this devastating news. Is there a chance for treatment?
I've had three Goldens that suffered rare, cancers and immune deficiency
diseases. I always joke that my pets get better medical care than I give myself...and
it's true. They're family.
You John, are a pet (animal) lover. There's a bunch of us here that share
that same trait. I've always enjoyed your posts where you took in a stray
or helped with animals in need. We know you for your love of kitties and barbies
Pets are our family. They show compassion and love in ways that no human could
ever do. Know that you have done amd continue to do your calling: taking care
of cats. It is always hard when you are faced with this situation. Make Sammi
comfortable, give her lots of salmon, cat nip and cuddles.
We are here for you John P.

Animals bring such love and joy into our homes and hearts; when they are ill
or worse they bring such heartbreak. Hoping that the time you have left together
continues to be happy and memorable. And remember, when the worst does finally
happen, you will one day meet again, over the Rainbow Bridge.
Take care.

this news. I think that those who have pets understand the deep connection between

| John,
I just wanted to say I am wishing you more time with her and am glad you had
so much time with her all these past years. I have pets too but there was one
I had that was my Sammi... his name was Tiger and I adopted him at one year old.
He HATED me at first, but with love and more love soon became much like your
Sammi. When he passed a few years back I swear I could still feel him walking
on me at night... crazy right? That is how tuned into them we get over time,
and used to them being so close. Sending prayers she is not in too much pain.

I know what you mean. I too have recently lost my best friend a rabbit, who liked
to be the center of attention. He wanted to be close to me and I took care of
him at his old age of 12 or 14 until I could not anymore. He was truly one
of a kind. I still miss him after 4 months. He adapted well to different situations
and liked people. My other rabbit I have had for 3 years still does not trust
people and might never. Animals are far different than people.

Thank you. It always amazes me what sort of pets people have. A couple of months
ago I was at the vets. When I walked in there was this very attractive young
woman. Yes, I noticed her, well dressed and very professional looking. When
they called her she stood up and the lizard or gecko came out from under her
collar. I was rather shocked. You never know.
I know that rabbits can become very attached to people. I had a couple when
I lived in Germany. Regardless of what animal a person owns, they become very
attached. I think that we love our pets because they are not people with all
the weirdness that people have.
take care
