Dear diary, trying to buy instructions for a set - cost 3-6 euro
Seller 1 - postage 18 euro - asked to post in an envelope, refused to do that
as he got burned before, asked to make an exception as I have a good rep, no
replies
Seller 2 - not posting to Ireland, asked if he could make an exception, no replies
Seller 3 - postage 75 euro (!)
Seller 4 - minimum buy 5 euro, instructions cost 6 euro, as soon as I put it
in my cart minimum buy goes up to 10 euro
Seller 5 - dare I try again?
Sometimes buying is quite a challenge here and I am surprised at the lack of
communication. Communication and answering is part of customer service.
I will always do anything I can to help a buyer and I will make exceptions if
the request is reasonable. So far that has worked fine for me.

How do you feel about 8-10 Euro with tracking and insurnace?
How do you feel about 8-10 Euro with tracking and insurnace?
Depends on what its for. For instructions I find it overkill
without tracking,... it is not possible to add IOSS/TAX number so people in Europe
and UK will be charged import taxes for the second time (BL charges import taxes
anyway)
with tracking and insurance, I think you would not find anything cheaper than
8-10 EURO if you want to buy from other countries.

That's interesting and makes sense. No wonder international shipping is increasing
so much in cost for even cheap items where in the past tracking would not have
been necessary.

Not exactly.
With our beloved CanadaPost, I can add TAX number for parcels, with or without
tracking.
With other private courier I use to ship, if I add Tax number, it gives me a
higher shipping costs (and I guess a different shipping option).

I doubt there are import taxes on an A4 envelope with a stamp

Just checked your store and you do not have them for sale
Why don't you disclose the item number you're looking for?
I can only think of one reason why you don't: you have found a very cheap
instruction compared to others on the market and you don't want to raise
awareness about this item because you're afraid that those sellers are alarmed
and raise their prices.
Don't make yourself look any more ridiculous than you already have and say
where it goes. Everyone here can help you!

The cost of the instructions has no bearing on the shipping; it's the size.
For example in Canada, one of the thicker instructions can be close to 1KG meaning
depending where it ships to in Canada, it can go as high as $25-30 (but thankfully
we have a national box for around $19+tax that it'll fit into). Instructions
are one of the most expensive things to ship, so I don't even list them for
the most part for that reason. They cost very little to purchase so nobody wants
to pay the shipping associated to them.

You dont have to post instructions in a box, just post them in a padded envelope
and put an international stamp. People are making this way too complicated. Its
just letter post, nothing else.

Are you asking a seller to send it to you like regular old letter mail rather
than goods? No wonder no one wants to.

Same with sticker sheets. I had someone a few months ago wanting me to post an
expensive sticker sheet in just a regular envelope, rather than between cardboard
sheets as a large letter. All to save about 30p on postage on a £20+ sticker
sheet. I'm almost certain I would have received a claim of it got creased
in the mail if I had sent it in a plain envelope.

I am not asking to save 30p, but I am not paying 18 euro for a 145 gram instructions
book, that can be posted in an envelope, within the EU.

Right but then you need to do the work to find a seller that will sell to you
on your terms rather than you doing less work and buying from a seller on their
terms.
I can understand people only willing to post things internationally with tracking
these days.
Seller 1. You asked him and he said no. But then you asked again. Why expect
another reply? You already had one saying no.
Seller 2. They don't sell to you. Why do you expect a reply, as you already
know they don't sell to you and it is hardly worth changing store settings
for a 3 Euro item.

Yes, you are trying to get the seller to do something that they have chosen not
to do. And then trying again once they have said no. For a small order with presumably
little profit to the seller but the possibility of a more significant loss once
their international postage costs are factored in if you claim damage or loss.

What are you on about man. Stop making assumptions.
I had a similar situation on one of my neutral feedbacks. The buyer asked me
to check the usps medial mail price which I did. It was about $.50 cheaper,
but I also discovered it’s against usps rule to ship lego sticker sheets via
media mail. I shipped my normal way and paid for 1/2 the “extra” 50 cents shipping.
He still hit me with a neutral.

We're talking about instructions that cost 3 euro, not a 2000 euro minifigure
People are way to suspicious about buyer intentions over a 3 euro item

I never said it had to ship via box (the only reference was the Canadian one
because it's cheaper than the bubble mailer with the label - only applicablein
Canada). The prices I listed were in an envelope. There are weight restrictions
to Lettermail in almost every country.
On top of that, goods sold internationally are to always include a customs form
requiring a parcel label (again - it can still be in the mailer not a box). The
main impact on the shipping is weight. What Sezar quoted is very cheap - we can't
even mail 1kg manuals in our own country for that low. The max is usually 500g
including the mailer and it's still up to ~$6.20CAD within Canada for that
max weight.

In the US, all bubble mailers are considered packages, not letters. To ship as
a letter with a stamp, the instructions would have to ship in a paper envelope
and without too much cardboard reinforcement. Envelopes that are too 'rigid'
are also considered packages.

I don't think you can fit a 1 kg instruction book in a letter envelope

So sad...
It happens regularly. I saw a part on a French store but the minimum buy is 150€
!! I asked the buyer for an exception, this part cost 4,50€ and i live in the
same country, shipping would have cost me 2€. Message was read but no reply...
I asked another seller for the condition of its part (the same)... no reply...
I hope you will find your instructions. What set are they from ?
Post the instructions you are looking for here and if a seller is willing to
send them to you on the cheap you will be contacted.

I feel your pain.
Now imagine being a store with a very well priced rare minifig and having people
from several countries messaging you to make an exception and send it via a stamped
envelope instead of the bubble mailer at $18-27.
It cuts both ways and it's just as annoying when a buyer keeps messaging
to make a one time exception.

yeah, that is a comletely different thing, I would not expect nor ask a store

my reqeust was reasonable.

I completely understand your frustrations. This has happened to me on many occasions.
You can always include other parts you may need into that order to increase
the value of the order there by making the shipping worthwhile.
Add the instructions to a wanted list and mark them notify so you get an e-mail
if any are listed.
Keep checking daily to see if a better deal with better shipping comes along.
