2019... But I don't know what alta vista is so I'm just pulling numbers
out of the air.

Do you realise how many entries there is for 'holes & hole' ? 2634 !
Do you really want that many to go through ? Surely you know if the part your
looking for has 1 hole or many holes? As for 'whole', there isn't
any items listed

I don't understand the reply I guess. Bad example? I meant it doesn't
pull other forms of the word or words containing the word. I don't remember
the last time there has been such a poor search feature. Rip not pulling up
rips or ripped. The search not pulling up like they should in this day and age
is not helping but hurting. "hi! we've made it convenient by exclude
most of the possible results!"

That word is with b(s) not p(s)

Sorry, the search engine is not advanced enough to figure that out for you

Which many times is a bonus since otherwise what your trying to find gets swamped
with hundreds of others that have similar words instead of just the word your
looking for

It does not have to do with age, although it may be a generational issue.
This behaviour is by design. If you want to include the plural in your 'hole'
search, type 'hole*'.

There are simply two styles of search entries:
- assuming literal search and requiring you to specify a pattern when you want
more, and
- assuming pattern matches and requiring you to specify when exact matches are
required.

I am quite happy with Bricklink using the first.

If you put an asterisk on hole* it will do what you are looking for
