I am new to this process. Ordered my first 2 sets last week. The first set came
mostly assembled. Taking it apart 2 of the pieces broke on the perimeter edge.
Seems like a manufacturer defect to me. Seller obviously did not know of this
since it was assembled. Do I still hold them accountable? Not trying to be a
pain. Just want to know what the expectations are.
Thanks, Cal

Was the color that broke reddish brown?
Or blue or dark red
dark red
Yup it’s definitely from lego. Was year was the set from and what theme (lord
of the rings?, etc)

The dark red color is known not to age well and becomes brittle over time. If
you contact Lego support, if the part color is still in production, they will
send you a replacement.

I would not count on that for a set produced in 2015 and which has changed hands
at least once.
Having said that, probably best to not mention you bought the set second hand.

Contact the seller and see what they say. I mentioned below that you can get
free replacement parts by contacting Lego support as well.

Ideally sets should be sold disassembled to avoid this type of thing. I’d not
fault the seller and rather Lego for the bricks being so brittle. Have tossed
lots of reddish brown, dark red, and other colors for parts breaking ask the
seller if they have another of the brick and if they’ll send it. I would. But
otherwise you may just need to BL the color to get a replacement.
And always always always be careful taking those color bricks apart knowing how
brittle they can be.

Noted, I will buy disassembled going forward. I was careful, but it's good
to know that I should look out for this in certain colors. These two pieces
were deep in the build so there was more pressure needed to pull apart. They
could actually go back together and you would not see. But it's the "I
would know" it was there. And I would not resell unless I replaced them.
Chalk it up to learning experience.
Thanks!!
The most common pieces to break in the dreaded dark colors or reddish brown are
plates and tiles. Always best to use multiple brick separators at the same time,
this will help eliminate the extra stress, hopefully!
