Hello,
we have currently the issue that messages which are sent from our customers via
the bricklink message system, are not forward to our email address. Order notifications
still arrive.
Does anybody else has this issue or has something changed with settings?

Best regards,
Oliver from Bricks-Shop.

Best regards,
Oliver from Bricks-Shop.

You need to check that your email provider is not classifying all BL messages
as Spam and send them to junk or some other folder. I had this problem until
I went to the email and set BL as a safe sender. Now I get all the emails. Lots
of email providers think BL is spam. I also recommend you choose an email address
for your store which is user friendly like Gmail.

Unofrtunately what you are saying about the blservice email address is true.
We get blocked by many ISPs and it takes the user themselves to unblock us or
request that we be unblocked.

You both are absolutely right that this might be often a problem. We operate
our email addresses as part of our web-pages and web-servers. I adjust everything
myself - and Bricklink is on the Whitelist.
We and others have had this issue a few years ago - and suddenly everything worked
well after a few days.
But now, I do not receive any messages - neither messages sent from users to
me nor messages I have sent with the box checked "send copy to my email".

I mean, I guess BrickLink dev/IT people must know about this, but did BrickLink
implement all those 3 rules?

Sender Policy Framework (SPF)
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM)
Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance (DMARC)

Because if not, it's nowadays *normal* e-mails to be rejected, and the end-user
doesn't even know about it, it's the server which is rejecting.
So, white-lists or such are ineffective.

Anyone, incluging you Russell, can test it while sending an e-mail using [youradress]@bricklink.com
to a free test site like:

https://www.mail-tester.com

or here:

https://mxtoolbox.com/deliverability

We here (since recently) have 10/10 on the first, just missing DMARC but it's
less important.

Since then no more e-mail rejected

DKIM is super important these days. I had to look into why our organization
was getting categorized as spam by gmail and it was due to DKIM not being setup.
The nice part is that it only takes an hour to do this. I too got a 10/10 (without
dmarc).

Really? I found DKIM to be incredibly tedious to set up. But now there are companies
that will do it for you (that is, you just relay through their email servers
rather than trying to do all the work on your own). And maybe the Windows tools
are better these days (10-15 years ago running Postfix on Linux was the only
really good option).

Yes/no.

If your e-mail provider automatically creates you the DKIM keys, it's very
easy.

You just have to set up on your side the appropriate TEXT entries on your domain
(for spf and DKIM).

We're using a Swiss e-mail provider ( https://www.infomaniak.com/en ) which
is very perfect for 20 years or so, and automatically provides you with DKIM
keys.

Of course it's not free as in Google, but as a Company we haven't and
we'll never use Google or such providers (microsoft, yahoo...) with the concerns
we've about reliability/privacy/usage of data...

Well it might be tedious if you do it for free, but for $300 there is a tool
that walks you through the process from emailarchitect.net. It was worth every
penny and is a lifetime license. This is exchange, not sure about the Linux
world, my knowledge of Linux is super limited.

My 1 hour statement could be wrong though, it's like when you go into a situation
and you have to learn it all as you go you feel like it will take forever, then
next thing you know you are done. It was like one of those kind of hours.

My husband has not been getting any BrickLink emails at all since yesterday.
We have a Gmail email address, but that is forward to my husband’s personal me.com
(Apple iCloud) email address. If I go into Gmail, it says that Apple doesn’t
trust messages sent from the BrickLink domain due to BrickLink.com’s DMARC policy.
It’s not sent to a junk folder, it is bounced as not deliverable at all. There
is no way for us to stop Apple from blocking it.

I understand that he could just set up his phone to have a separate Gmail inbox,
but he doesn’t want to and shouldn’t have to.

I have not received any emails from Bricklink for the last few days, nothing
in my spam folder either.

That's xxxx has ordered xyz, xxxx has asked for a quote, xxxx has paid for
the order. nothing at all, I'm having to log in and check regularly to make
sure I'm not missing anything that's going on.

The crazy situation is that we receive all the "order, quote, etc." messages
but not the user messages. It seems to be again a problem at Bricklink - 4 days
ago, everything has arrived, but suddenly again this problem. This should be
solved quickly. I think their outgoing message system is down.

You could test this by switching to email with a completely different provider
and see if you get the same results. I don't see how it could be a system-wide
BrickLink issue that only some email accounts are only getting some messages.

I personally have a gmail account and am currently getting all messages from
blservice@bricklink.com.

Some email providers block suspected spam before it gets to your account, and
some block it and send it to your spam/junk folder. If the former is happening,
it is difficult to fix.

Hope that helps,
Jen

I last received an email from blservice@bricklink.com on the 26th Jan, it goes
to an email address that is then forwarded onto yahoo, never had an issue until
then. Nothing in my spam as I check that daily.

I've had this problem on and off with my ISP for years. They randomly start
blocking BL emails at the server, so they never show up on my phone or computer.
I fixed this by logging into my ISP account online and manually marking BL emails
as not spam.

No, you simply don't know about it.

Servers just talk to each other, and if it's rejected by your server there's
no way for you to white list or such

While this is technically true, the root of the problem is bricklink's email
configuration.

This is only going to get worse over time as more email hosts will require dkim
(anti-spoofing config).

I urge you to point the technical team/it dept towards this permanent solution:

Unofrtunately what you are saying about the blservice email address is true.
We get blocked by many ISPs and it takes the user themselves to unblock us or
request that we be unblocked.

While this is technically true, the root of the problem is bricklink's email
configuration.

This is only going to get worse over time as more email hosts will require dkim
(anti-spoofing config).

I urge you to point the technical team/it dept towards this permanent solution:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1389918

But what I do not understand is the fact that we receive emails from blservice@bricklink.com
for orders and quote request, but we do not receive any other messages which
are normally sent by this email-address like user messages. The email is since
many years on our white list - either all emails from the senders domain should
be blocked or none of them. This is what I do not understand - but I am also
not a professional IT person.
I placed a service ticked 6 days ago; but I have not good feeling to receive
any answer.

They take about 3 weeks to respond so there is still hope!

So after a few days of no emails from blservice@bricklink.com I get an email
from the Bricklink team about the designer program selecting submissions. Great
I thought they've fixed the problem! Alas all is not fixed I have just got
an order in and no email saying I have an order even though they come from the
same email address.
Seems the emails from admin get through but nothing about orders!!
