This set is from 2004. Early enough IDs for these parts exist to have been first released in this set.

I would like to see more proof for this. LEGO parts were found in Dark Gray in
sealed sets up to 2005. Do you have any info about how long this set was produced?

Sealed sets from 2005 usually have older colors if they’re floor-cleaning sets,
packaged with some parts by mistake, or LEGOLAND giveaways.
This is a Dacta set that was first released the same year that modern colors
were introduced. Dacta sets tend to exist for a while. The DBG and LBG parts
in this set have 4220xxx IDs created for a first appearance in 2004. Though,
this set was using parts from the 2003 wave of this DUPLO subtheme, LEGO appears
to have created new IDs for older parts in newer colors, all of which would have
made their first appearance here.

I know Dacta sets tend to exist for a while, but I can't find any info how
long these sets were produced. It's released in 2004 and has (if correct)
figs with Dark Gray legs. There are many sets released in 2004 with Dark Gray
and Light Gray parts. How do you know this set has 4220xxx ID's. Do you have
a parts list for this set?

Just noticed you changed the year of release for this set from 1998 to 2004 in
August this year. Can you tell me the source? Brickset shows: Year of release
yet to be confirmed.

This set has an ID of 4218155. This would have showed up in 2004.
I am also not convinced that this set never came with the old grays. Even though
the inventory was compiled from source "Instructions", there is just not enough
evidence to say one way or the other. If anything, I would have expected it to
originally come with old grays and then shortly be replaced with new grays.
