I already noticed for years that in a lot of vintage sets these hooks appear
randomly. So it does in this set (checked 3 boxed sets with all original parts).
Both
[s=3127,5]and
[s=3127b,5] exist in Pat Pend as well as Pat Pend Obscured
Based on 2 boxed sets, instructions and complete builds, I can say that the inventory
on Bricklink is correct.
BUT, with the following differences:
- sets 606, 643 and 681 have regular 1x4 bricks instead of Legoland Bricks
- set 643 has a slightly different build, starting with a 4x6 plate instead of
4x8 plate
- Samsonite Specific Parts
These waffle plates were discontinued around 1965/1966 and only made by Samsonite
after that. As far as I know, the black and light gray ones are Samonite-only.
About the same time the 1x2 plates were changed, but Samsonite still used:

Some of the Samsonite parts.
I did my best, but the images are not all very clear.
My boxed set has bricks and plates mixed with normal Logo and Samsonite Logo
on studs.
There are also color differences and material differences. Could be the color
difference is caused by the material.
The image with the 3 red plates are showing 3 different logo's on the studs,
all specific Samsonite parts though. On the left the 4x8 Waffle plate, on the
right on top the 2x3 plate and below that the 4x6 plate.
The Wheels Holder has a Milky White Bush in the middle, Black Bushes on the sides
and this big capital PAT PEND, like the 4x6 plate.
I also added a comparison image for the car grille bricks and an image from Chris
to show that these Samsonite Car Grille Bricks show differences....
.... and an image of blue Samsonite plates, send to me back in 2009 by Gary Istok.
I added this image to show the fragile material, they didn't survive the
trip.
I like these Samsonite Parts and just wanted to share and show that set 349 is
very different in parts then the sets I mentioned earlier.
