I just noticed that some of the plates with clips got name changes two examples
are:

61252 https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=61252#T=P went
from

Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Horizontal (thick open O clip)

to

Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip (Horizontal Grip)

and 11476 https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=11476#T=P went
from

Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Clip Horizontal on Side

to

Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Clip on Side (Horizontal Grip)

When did this happen? I clicked on the change logs to the parts and they didn't
mention the name change. Is there a place to see what items get their name changed?

There's some get-it-done type individuals working on the catalog, now. I
don't know if this has to do with your question: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1200979

...if not, just plug it into the forum search. They are all fairly active on
the forum.

When did this happen?

First, all the clips were “harmonized” together (capitals, order, names).
It happened between March 7th 2020 and May 20th 2020 (I haven’t downloaded the
catalogue in between these dates).
E.g., for 61252, “with Clip Horizontal (thick open O clip)” became “with Open
O Clip Horizontal Thick.”

Then, the “Clip Horizontal|Vertical” was changed to “(Horizontal|Vertical Grip)”
around the 5th of June, during this discussion: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1200992

You’ll note there have been absolutely no message by the admins that the discussion
spurred the change.
At the beginning of the discussion, there was no “grip,” then it appeared.

I clicked on the change logs to the parts and they didn't

Yep, the logs are useless for that.

I see that the change logs are updated sometimes with Name changes and other
times not. hopefully they will be more consistent with it when they update things
in a week or two.

btw, that was weird in that thread you posted about the guy flipping out on your
example of a loaded question (and the wife beating thing)

A lot of manual changes made behind the scenes by Catalog Associates/Admins are
not logged in the change log.

It depends if the changes are made through the usual forms or directly in the
database (or maybe through admin forms for changes in batches).
I thought there was a new (unwritten) rule about avoiding direct modifications
to have tracks now but it seems not.

Yep.

Changes to item titles are only logged when we go through the change request

All changes in item type and category are always logged. And to answer this
question you posted in another thread:

Are you planning on posting a list of the changes?

Yes. Not only will they be logged in change logs, but a separate dedicated page
has been created as a quick reference guide:

thanks for the info. I appreciate the special page listing all the changes.

I'm hoping that when you rename things you will take in to account sorting
alphabetically by part name. For example, It's plate, modified and not modified
plate so that your regular plates are with your modified plates instead of "modified
plate" where your modified plates would be with your "modified bricks".

It's not necessary as much with things that have their own categories, but
Modified plates that have clips are kind of their own category. For example
you've went with the nomenclature of Plate, Modified with OPEN O clip with
Horizontal Grip instead of Plate Modified with clip (open O) with Horizontal
Grip.

I am not trying to get things changed again, I just hoping that in the future
some of this is considered before making large scale changes as it clearly wasn't
considered with this change.

I won't even get in to why bricks and plate are 1x4 (smaller number first)
but slopes and wedges are 4x1 (larger number first).

thanks for all your hard work. I'm sure it's not easy when people gripe
at every turn.

Is sorting by category not good enough? I'm doing OK with sorting by category
and within Pate,Modified arranging things by dimensions. I don't really need
the item name, so I wonder if you really do?

For plate, modified with clips and handles are the two main things I have sorted
in sub-sections. I guess, I also have slope, curved sorted by the 2nd dimension
(like ? x 1 and ? x 2+).

I'm an adapter, so when the changes come in, it's really not that big
of a deal for me to adjust. I'm fully aware that I'm not the only one
who uses this site and would hate to make 90% of the users change for me.

I absolutely do take that into account.

Here's the problem: standardizing the catalog would result in changes. The
site believes that changes frighten people. Therefore, changes are sometimes
met with resistance. Some changes that have been made were reversed by the site.

it clearly wasn't considered with this change.

It was considered. An appearance of incompetence on our part doesn't equate
to actual incompetence. Other factors are involved.

I won't even get in to why bricks and plate are 1x4 (smaller number first)

Because BrickLink dimensions don't always make sense. The catalog team does
not have the liberty to correct these kinds of problems at this point in time.

thanks for all your hard work. I'm sure it's not easy when people gripe

I don't consider discussion to be griping. Feedback is important and an
ongoing conversation between members and the catalog team is greatly welcomed,
even if we can't always agree on everything.

Keep in mind, though, that every public expression of discontent reinforces the
site's belief that members abhor change. Contacting us privately with dissatisfactions
is preferred. We will respond.

thanks for the reply. I sincerely didn't mean to imply incompetence. I

The only thing I don't understand is why the orientation is in the brackets
rather than the type. I had always understood text in brackets to refer to types..
so what is the meaning of brackets really
