Members have recently identified two problems with these part variant entries:
1. The additional notes need to be updated.
2. Part 4623 comes in both 5 MM and 6 MM horizontal arm length versions.
A member has submitted a request for us to take action.
What changes will happen? 1. The title of Part 4623 currently in parentheses will be changed to
read "Undetermined Arm Length," but the part will not immediately be marked for
deletion.
2. A new catalog entry will be created with the part number 4623a and
the title "Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Arm Up (Horizontal Arm Length 6mm)."
3. Part 88072 has 4623b as an alternate item number. The primary number
(88072) and alternate item number (4623b) will be switched for this part.
4. The additional notes for all three entries will be updated for brevity
and ease of comprehension.
When will these changes occur?
All four changes are planned to occur between the hours of 8 AM and 4 PM CST
on July 8th, 2020.
Why are these changes necessary?
The changes are necessary because Part 4623 comes in both 5 MM and 6 MM horizontal
arm lengths. The catalog does not currently recognize this fact and some inventories
include incorrect part variants.
How will these changes affect BrickLink members?
Sellers should move their for-sale listings from the undetermined entry to either
4623a or 4623b as soon as reasonably possible after the July 8th changes. Members
who object to one or more changes should immediately provide input with clear
reasons for their objections.

I don't understand why there is a 2 week waiting period.
I imagine normann1974 will be providing further input once the changes occur.
I'm not sure that I can provide any more details on this issue. I identified
the problems with these parts in sets that I own from my childhood collection
(80's), and all these sets have been mixed together and refurbished with
spare parts in case of broken/discolored parts and (wrong) inventories on BL.

I checked three sets from 1984 (the earliest appearances of 4623) in my personal
collections that were all built from sealed set contents and never mixed with
parts from other sets. They all have the 5 mm arm length.

This coincides with my experiences. I have three of those sets in my childhood
collection, and at some point, I didn't have any 6 mm parts in that collection.
That only changed the sets because BL insisted they should be 6 mm. I'll
change them back again.
It is correct, the space police sets from 1989 require the variant with 6mm arm
lengh. Maybe that was the reason to change this part in the late 1980s. I am
pretty sure I have never seen any set from the 1990s and early 2000s with the
5mm variant. I will check some sets from my collection soon.

I froze all of these pieces back when this waiting period started and have measured
and checked stampings a bit at a time when it was convenient. I never collated
that data until just now, but I found something that may trouble you. I have
43876 (currently registered as an alternate number for 88072) in 5mm and 6mm.
The 6mm one is reddish brown and came in 80104-1.

I think the only necessary changes based on your new information are as follows:

I just tried typing in 2536 to see if that would show me all of it variants and
that didn't happen. I don't know a piece with a and b alternate numbers,
but I assume it would do that same thing. Searching 43876 will come up with
no results.

This is a typo, isn't it? You did not really get the 6mm variant in a 2020
set?
