For those who may have missed this recent change, we have decided to change the
name "Flesh" to another color name in the BrickLink catalog. I'm not going
to get into the reasons why this was done - the purpose here is to inform you
of what the changes were and how they may affect your BrickLink user experience.
The changes are 5 in number:
1. Light Flesh becomes Light Nougat
2. Flesh becomes Nougat
3. Medium Dark Flesh becomes Medium Nougat
4. Dark Flesh becomes Medium Brown
5. Dark Nougat is added to the BrickLink catalog, which is currently included
with BrickLink's Earth Orange.
Changes to the color names in Item Names are forthcoming. No changes to inventories
are necessary except to give Dark Nougat a place in the system.
How this may effect you:
1. If you rely on any of BrickLink's list pages that can be sorted by color
(set inventory, catalog search, catalog item detail page, etc.) some items may
be listed in a different order.
2. If you have your physical parts inventory sorted by color, you may need to
relabel. Dark Flesh is relatively rare, but if you have it, you will need to
change the labels to Medium Brown. That's the tough one, although renaming
it to a type of brown is a big step in the right direction.
3. If you perchance have the type of Earth Orange from the early 2000's,
you should separate out these parts and relist them under Dark Nougat. This color
is retired and quite rare.
Thanks to our BrickLink color enthusiasts for their input. They've given
invaluable advice over the years and we're happy they were willing to give
some advice this time around as well.

a while back. I kept Tygurah and I still have a 3700

I saved this list from a discussion about the color long ago.
There could be a few more.
My current best guess is that Ron Weasley and the parts in 7411 are really Earth
Orange. But I would feel better if I could triangulate with some other colors.
I don't know if I can be confident that my 1997 bread is really Earth Orange.

I can confirm that the Weasley hair is not Earth Orange.
Look at the hair parts for sale. There are Earth Orange parts with notes about
the color difference. Also, there are Fabuland brown and Fabuland Orange parts
for sale. Currently, sellers note the difference and are finding different ways
to deal with that.

Okay. By "Early" do you mean the Rons before the current relaunch with Dark
Orange or early versions of THAT minifig are different from later ones?

All Rons from 2001-2004 have Earth Orange hair. The following comparison image

I don't have time to request these catalog changes now.
I would appreciate it if anyone could help.
While I believe you, I would only use your list as a guide for sets to buy in
order to confirm. There isn't a drop down for "I believe WoutR" on a catalog

I understand wanting to confirm from a set and it's always good to do. But
I will say that WoutR is one of a handful of BrickLink members who have demonstrated
a comprehensive understanding of LEGO colors. No one is perfect; but if WoutR
says something about color, then it's probably true.

I totally believe him and if admin want to use his post that is fine. I just
don't put my name on someone else's words. I have done some searching

name "Flesh" to another color name in the BrickLink catalog. I'm not going
to get into the reasons why this was done - the purpose here is to inform you

Russell, is there any way in the future we can be alerted to major changes like
this through the new email alert system we were asked to sign up for?
For many of us adding or changing a color is important to know about since it
concerns inventory for sale and the forum is difficult to track if it is not
kept up with.

Thank you for the consideration,

We have talked about a notification system for years where not only would you
be altered to major changes but also small changes that might affect you as a
seller of "X" in a big way. Sellers of course would be able to opt in / opt out
of notifications on several levels, including whether they had a given item (or
color) in stock.
However, one of our goals in any catalog work (which by its nature involves change)
is to minimize the impact that the changes will have on sellers. So in regard
to this change, the effects of it were weighed up. We had two major colors that
got a name adjustment that shouldn't have caused any serious seller any trouble.
And the other changes (though major) affected a relatively small number of listings.
If we decided to call the new colors Light Gray, Dark Gray, and Brown, and put
the distinguishing terms on the old colors (Light Yellowish Gray, Dark Yellowish
Gray, Stately Brown), THAT would be a huge process that involved an extensive
notification procedure.
But if we changed all "Gray" to "Grey", it would almost be worth not mentioning.
The "Flesh" name we handled today is somewhere between the two in actual effect
on sellers, but I would say much closer to Gray / Grey in scale.

I really appreciate that the name that outside processes would call when referencing
these colors were not modified. Thank whoever made sure that didn't happen
for me please.
If things like that were to be altered it would cause some havoc that would undoubtedly
effect end users on all platforms involved with these outside processes.
Being extra vague here because I don't keep up with the forum rules and am
not sure if mentioning certain brands, sites or processes are an offense or will
be in the future but, thanks for making it painless, at least for this person.
I'll call it whatever we're going to call it, it's just aligning
existing color charts names for me.
Synchronization is important, wink wink, nodd nodd, nudge nudge, say no more.
I think the point here is that any changes, big or small, should be communicated
better than a post on the forum that most will never see.
Very glad about the color changes though. Calling something Medium Dark is an
abomination. As if there's a light dark and a dark dark too?!?

There is only 1 rational reason: Lego calls these colors Nougat.
So the transition to a tighter connection (assimilation?) to the Lego-Corp has
started I guess?
Could be, but then they renamed Medium Dark Flesh to Medium Dark Nougat, while
the official TLG color name of that one is Medium Nougat. So the outcome is more
fragmentation of color names.

Changing Medium Dark Nougat to Medium Nougat is a complete mistake and I can't
believe it really happened. In Bricklinks colour convention, "Medium Dark" means
"between regular and dark". "Medium" means "Lighter than". But "Medium Nougat"
is DARKER than "Nougat". This is a comolete naming mistake and needs to be corrected
ASAP.

These parts are all true Earth Orange. They are not the LEGO color known as Dark
Nougat.

Then the only other thing that crossed my mind, and did not come up in a color
search in the catalog, were those very very obscure LEGO community sets (in an
educational vein like DACTA) which were large collections of minifigs in different
occupations and varying skin tones. I don't know if all of these were ever
inventoried. They were not available via the usual mass market outlets, not even
TRU.
One question though, can you be a bit more specific about separation of certain
Earth Orange parts? As I understand it, most of the Earth Orange colored parts
stay Earth Orange colored only specific Earth Orange colored parts need to be
changed by hand.

is a bit vague to me.
1. Can you give us the precise years of the Earth Orange colored parts that are
now considered to be Dark Nougat.
2. Also (if the list is not to big, which it should be, based on your earlier
message) can you give us the exact sets and/or parts?
One question though, can you be a bit more specific about separation of certain
Earth Orange parts? As I understand it, most of the Earth Orange colored parts
stay Earth Orange colored only specific Earth Orange colored parts need to be
changed by hand.

I am sorry, but the only way you can really know if you have Dark Nougat is if
you collect several pieces that are unmistakably Earth Orange and then make a
comparison. It's better that you leave the listings as Earth Orange than
to list something incorrectly as Dark Nougat, because collectors will buy up
that color just to have it. And they will be disappointed if it's not really
Dark Nougat.

We are now adviced to incorrectly list items so buyers will not be disappointed?
That must be against some basic rule here, isn't it?

If you can't distinguish between the two colors, list the items as Earth
Orange. It's the most common of the two colors, and thus less of an issue
if a buyer gets Dark Nougat instead of Earth Orange than the other way around.

This isn't bizarre, it's common sense.
See this is what I am struggling with. Maybe my understanding of what you are
trying to say throughout this thread is flawed, but I cannot grasp this at all.
If a buyer orders an item incorrectly listed as Dark Nougat, then the seller
has no leg to stand on and cannot count on any assistance from site management
in the event of a claim.
If a buyer orders an item incorrectly listed as Earth Orange, it is site policy
that it is common sense that it might be the wrong colour, but since the seller
listed it incorrectly, there is no assistance from site management in the event
of a claim.
Either way the seller remains responsible because the listing is incorrect. Unless
BL turns around and make it site policy that some items are listed incorrectly
at the behest of management and therefor absolve sellers of liability. Is it
not better common sense to include matters of site policy into the ToS instead
of an obscure forum thread which will be long forgotten by the time an issue
arises?
If a buyer orders an item incorrectly listed as Dark Nougat, then the seller

Dark nougat is a new and rare color, so items listed as such should be carefully
verified. That is the seller's responsibility to the buyer.
If a buyer orders an item incorrectly listed as Earth Orange, it is site policy
An administrator gave commonsense advice for handling the integration of the
new color. That does not rise to the level of site policy.
that it is common sense that it might be the wrong colour
It has been the wrong color since whenever these colors were added until now.
The site has made progress and you complain? How would you recommend handling
the situation? Removing all items for sale in earth orange and insisting that
every seller examine the colors before relisting them for sale?
but since the seller listed it incorrectly, there is no assistance from site management in the event of a claim.
Again, true dark nougat parts have always been listed incorrectly. You are making
something out of nothing merely for the sake of having something to be unhappy
about.

Tetchy are we not? I did not ask you for an opinion on anything I said. I asked
a question (twice) as a paid up customer of BrickLink on something on which I
am unclear and to which not furher diection has been given other than the fact
that members who cannot understand this must use common sense. Now put your little
boxing gloves back on the shelf please. You would not begin to know what makes
me happy or unhappy. I've not said ANYTHING about the progress or lack thereof
of this site. I am not the only member who have expressed confusion about this
issue as raised by a member of site management and in fact the only current catalogue
administrator. I am tryig to get an understanding of what is meant by having
common sense and maybe/maybe not atatements applied to an agreement. That is
it, no more, no less.
Every training course for safety, manual handling etc, that I've ever been
on, the trainer always insists that there is no such thing as common sense.
Their justification being that what's common sense for one is not necessarily
common sense for another, experience tells me that they are right, we all have
our own ideas as to what is common sense.

No. What Russell is trying to say is that the BL color "Dark Nougat" is _very_
rare. Previously, the current "Earth Orange" parts and the current "Dark Nougat"
parts were all lumped under the old "Earth Orange". Now that there actually is
a "Dark Nougat" BL color, people have the option of using the correct "Dark Nougat"
color for parts that are _actually_ "Dark Nougat". But the vast majority of parts
that were under the old "Earth Orange" are actually still "Earth Orange", so
there are very few parts that sellers need to move from "Earth Orange"
to "Dark Nougat".
If sellers are unsure of whether their "Earth Orange" part is actually "Dark
Nougat", chances are very high this is not the case, so the advice is "when in
doubt, don't change your listing from Earth Orange to Dark Nougat.

Niek.
Thanks for stepping in Niek. This made me decide not to change anything at all
.

Thanks randy! Vernon Dursley's hair I believe!
I think I've got one in my stockroom.
Always bothered me that a couple of the Earth Oranges didn't match well.

The short answer is that BL's color list has always been slightly bonkers,
and went it's own way (both in names and trying to decide what was a unique
color and what was not).
It appears that Earth Orange has been home to two official TLG colors (12 {Light
Orange Brown} and 128 {Dark Nougat}). This an attempt to pull those two apart,
and to (somewhat) correct the naming (although I do not expect our beloved Earth
Orange to go away anytime soon).
The other changes are (it would appear) to remove 'flesh', since true
epidermal flesh comes in a huge variety of shades, that TLG's ABS does not
represent (and to change over to the TLG naming at the same time).
On my color list (which I have not updated since 2015), I see four 'nougat'
variants:
Nougat (TLG 18)
Dark Nougat (TLG 128)
Light Nougat (TLG 283)
Medium Nougat (TLG 312)
It's remarkable quit now, about the Nougat colours!
With all do of respect and comprehension about the decision to change the name
from Flesh to Nougat...
I didn't follow all those threads and discussions/remark, some were so funny
I couldn't stop laugh about it...
But I assume it has to be one of the most controversial and humorous decision
made by BrickLink or Lego, isn't it?
Anyway, we can presume that most BL members have accepted (or learned to deal
with it) the name change of the colour!

Might be an idea if they concentrate on the non-trivial/controversial things
now and leave those to further down the line. But it is Bricklink, so who knows?

The same is here. Do not say anything against a decision by the Admins!

Do you mean I said something wrong in my reply to the thread ???
Please, tell me. Cause I personally don't know what I said wrong.
I said I respect and understand the made decision (the why or the reason) and
why they chose Nougat as reference.
But at looking to or reading all those threads and discussions, I've concluded
that the decision is controversial, and in some people's mind humorous (if
you've got a little sens for humour).

The group of color names 'flesh' were purely constructs that BL came
up with. THe 'nougat' family of names has been available in the LEGO
community, since at least 2011, when TLG gave to Peeron a reasonably accurate
list (as of that point in time). Now, having said that, before anyone knew the
names should have been 'nougat', BL began to coin color names, and this
likely began about 2003, when certain NBA minifigures came out with what appeared
to be flesh like shade of ABS. Having not seen much of this before, BL created
their own name(s). Soon thereafter, some of the HP minifigs transitioned from
basic yellow to flesh like shades.
What is happening here, is to steer the BL color inventory to align with other
sites, and (in the case of Earth Orange) to untangle errors that were being perpetuated
by a lack of clear information at BL.
IMHO, it's for the greater good, and people need to recognize that.
