I'm making these helmets alternates because the current listing is not a totally undetermined piece and my findings contradict the part that was known. My box says copyright 1984,1989, so there is plenty of room for a run change to explain changed helmets, especially the red ones that were not known in sets until 1987.

I have gotten busy and haven't torn into the set yet, but yes. Randy and
I discussed the heads yesterday while I was at work so I looked at that when
I got home. I have solid stud heads. And mine is a 1989 release of the set.
Hard to believe the original inventory has blocked open heads and also bricks
without inner supports. But the inventory says it was from a parts list and
that's way before published PCC, so I think all the variants in the whole
set are going to be loose.

I have the same conclusion. Generally speaking, i do not trust inventory of a
set inventoried few years ago.

Turez actually said a code on the box made it a 1991 sale.
I don't know yet how to transform a barcode into a date
TLG changed the box packaging in 1989, so ALL sets released before 1989, let's

I assume you bought this set on ebay a few days ago? Photos from that listing
show batch code 3311, that would mean your copy was produced in August 1991.

One of these was actually a mistake that I will correct when I finish combing
through the set. I just looked at the bottom of the 3044 Slope to see what the
underside was and I paid no attention to the top to see that it isn't any
sort of 3044. It is 3048c.
