Corrections to inventory in accordance with set instructions.

I notice some changes have been made, but not all. Please also delete sw106a.

If this figure is retained as an acceptable counterpart then the inventory does
not contain the parts to make the backpack. By including the correct minifigure
sw106 the set is complete, there is no need to include sw106a as a counterpart.
It does not have parts in a different version or other information that we might
need, it is just an incomplete figure.

That request has been denied. I'm with you, though. Leaving a minifigure
in the catalog just because it's too pretty to delete is one thing, like
this figure:

Minifig No: cas122 Name: Castle
*
cas122 Castle
Minifigures: Castle
Marked for Deletion

Allowing the figure to remain in the inventory of a set is another thing entirely.

I'm guessing sw106a was retained because the back of the box shows the dude
without a backpack. Well, the front of the box shows the dude with a
backpack. Since the box offers conflicting evidence, the instructions seem to
me like the way to go for this set.

But then a correct set, sold according the inventory with the counterpart, can
be missing parts required to build the complete set.

Could an inventory admin please explain the reasoning behind this? Why do we
need this minifigure in this set?

The change just made does not make any used sets being sold incomplete, so that
cannot be the reason to do this. And I cannot think of any other reasons.

Technically, the instructions are the standard for any minifig inventory. It's
just that a number of exceptions have been applied on top of this standard, both
written and unwritten. The only time box images really enter in is when the instructions
are not definitive (i.e. they don't show things clearly or they don't
exist).

But then a correct set, sold according the inventory with the counterpart, can

The change just made does not make any used sets being sold incomplete, so that
cannot be the reason to do this. And I cannot think of any other reasons.

Whenever a counterpart is used in compiling or parting out a set, it is up to
the seller to extract these items from the main body of parts, i.e. the Regular
Items section, which includes the minifigures. The most practical way of doing
this is to click the "Break Minifigs" link on the top of the page (use the old
inv page, not the new one) and then mark off the parts from that list.

There are many counterparts that overlap with each other, and some use variant
parts. In all these cases, the seller needs to work carefully to avoid making
errors.

Personally, I would prefer to see the version without the backpack marked for
deletion, but as long as that fig is still in good standing in the catalog, it
should be retained in the inventory. There are precedents for this, btw, for
example the Ghostbusters figs:

Set No: 21108 Name: Ghostbusters Ecto-1
*
21108-1 (Inv) Ghostbusters Ecto-1
440 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 2014
Sets: LEGO Ideas (CUUSOO): Ghostbusters
Both versions are listed in the inventory, with the most complete figs listed
in the Regular section. This is likely the pattern we will see in the future
if the two-tiered solution continues to be used.

Thank you for explaining.

Aren't we entering a circle here? The catalog administrators retain the minifigure
because it is linked to an inventory and the inventory admins retain it because
it is not yet marked for deletion?

I think it is easier to remove the incorrect figure from the inventory first,
then mark it for deletion, and finally delete it after some time when the items
currently listed have been updated or sold.

No, if the CA's decide to delete a fig (or part), they mark it for deletion
and then ask us to remove it from its inventory(s).

Could I ask the Inventory Admins to reconsider this? The more I think about it,
the more this feels like a wrong use of the counterpart feature. We are introducing/enforcing
a wrong precedent here.

I believe the pattern chosen for the Cas122 figure should be the guideline, and
not the pattern chosen for the Ghostbuster figures.

The odd thing to me about the Ghostbusters minifigs is the newness of the set.
I understand that old castle and Star Wars figs were inventoried long ago and
those exceptions have been inherited by the current Admins, but why allow the
Ghostbuster minifigs without at least the neck bracket (as was done with the
GB Firehouse figs) to be added to begin with and assuming that was done by mistake,
not then marked for deletion? And then why perpetuate that distinction for a
2nd set?

Is this purely a seller accommodation? Might have made more sense and benefited
the catalog more overall to have just added a complete/incomplete flag to minifigs.
