Dear Admin,
please make it possible for the seller to change the selected currency again
as it was before.
I use the currency to separate between EU and non-EU. It is a headache when the
buyer selects the wrong currency and I have to cancel the order.

stefan

Voted no, you can't just willy nilly tell people what currency to use and then
cancel depending on if they're in the EU or not.

How does one select a wrong currency. Check out should only list your accepted
currencies of Euro and US Dollar?
As a seller I accept euro sterling and dollars and will happily receive any currency
listed. If I were to order from you I would likely pay in dollars as my paypal
has more dollars than euros.

Could you please explain how you use the different currencies to separate EU
and Non-EU orders and why? It might help your suggestion out.

It doesn't seem like the best policy. I receive payments in any currency I accept
from any buyer regardless of location. If a buyer from Europe, or the US, or
anywhere else, pays in Euro, I eventually turn around and spend those Euros in
a shop that will accept them. I have looked at this store several times but have
always purchased from other stores because this one doesn't take my Euros. That's
cool, they have every right. It doesn't matter to me, people can run their store
how they want to. I respect that. But I think it still makes economic sense to
accept the currency from all buyers. Even if there is some reason it is more
costly to do so, surely it doesn't outweight the alternative, which is the amount
of potential business lost when you don't let people pay in the currency they
want and they bypass your store.

Indeed. I always download order lists separated by currency to get the sums of
the buyers who paid VAT (EU and euro), and those without VAT (USD non-EU).
Therefore the buyer must select according to their country. If a non-EU buyer
would select Euro, I would pay VAT on it, though he didn't pay VAT.
I hope it becomes more logical now. kind regards,
stefan

Ah! Well in that case it could be very costly. VAT is expensive, as far
as I understand. Makes sense now.

In addition, IBAN payments can only be made in EUR. Having a buyer who selected
a different currency than EUR and who wants to pay by IBAN requires to change
the currency to EUR.
It used to work before Oct-1 this year and was also broken from Oct-1 to Dec-31
last year.
It seems to be a bug in the system with 2-digit months.
So far nothing was done to resolve the bug.

It seems to be a bug in the system with 2-digit months.
I discussed this with Admin and got the idea that the start date 10-10-01 (01-Oct-2010)
and the (possible) end date 11-01-10 (10-Jan-2011) might be a reason for a database
error. It's just an idea, though.
So far nothing was done to resolve the bug.
At least Eric had a look into it, don't know if you consider this to be "doing"
something. The reason for this error is probably a code bug way older than 10-10-01
that only showed up at that date - at least Eric KNOWS that this no immediate
effect of a system change at that date.

To Admin, Eric, or to whom it may concern. Is there any news/progress on this
currency selection bug as the problem still exists several months down the road?

Dear Admin, dear members.
please change the bug so that it does not happen again next winter.
it causes irritation and problems and unsatisfaction with many buyers and I might
not be the only one to have the problem.

I understand this helps you with your accounting on your VAT, but can you not
just look at orders individually and use the country to determine how much VAT
you're collecting instead of relying simply on currencies?
Honestly, If I had a whack of EU orders that paid me in Euro's and I went into
your shop, knowing it's more costly for me to withdraw Euros from paypal, I would
select Euro to pay in. Why pay in something that I can withdraw with less cost
when I can pay in a higher rate (and no conversion fees)
If then you forced me to pay in US dollars, I think I'd be ticked off.
It would then cost ME to help you with accounting.
Of course, you'd have a case to cancel because I didn't read your store terms,
but that means you'd be throwing away orders just because it's easier to account
for sales.
