I would like it if the option were added to reserve image submissions in the
same fashion as we reserve inventories.
Make the time period before the reservation ends 24 hours or something similar,
so that we don't have to wait on images.
I'm quite frankly tired of taking photos, going through the effort of making
sure they are very good, professional images and then upon preparing to upload
them, finding out somebody else has submitted yet another poorly done digital
version of the piece. The color is inaccurate and the piece is unrecognizable
or inaccurate especially when a piece has curves.

Yeah, that's a great idea, but it won't be added.
I voted yes!

I have mixed feelings about this. Having the reservations for set inventories
makes sense, since it can actually take a long time to do. It doesn't take very
long to prepare a picture. If this were to be implemented, I don't think the
reservation should last more than an hour. If someone else is ready with a picture,
I don't see why everyone else should have to wait 24 hours for it.
As for "crappy digital versions," and by this I assume you mean rendered images
as opposed to photographed? Allowing users to reserve images isn't going to stop
this.
On a side note, there can be crappy photographs and good rendered versions too.
Colors can be even more wrong in photographs if the user submitting the image
doesn't bother to do any color correction. This is especially a problem with
white and grey pieces, since point and shoot cameras try to adjust to middle
grey, so everything comes out looking somewhere between light and dark grey.
Personally, I prefer rendered images for basic parts in matte colors since it
makes everything consistent. It would be nice if all the 2 x 4 bricks in matte
colors were all the same rendered view, but there are several odd colors that
sneaked in there.
In reality, I should probably just speed up the process of preparing the photos.
At least that's what it seems like.
I would be happy keeping the reservation time just 1 or 2 hours. That would
be enough time to cover the color correction and resizing.
I also am aware of the fact that somebody could reserve the images for submitting
rendered versions of the parts. It seems unlikely that somebody would though,
because rendering images takes very little time and effort. It is also unlikely
somebody who takes poor photos would be likely to reserve an image, because taking
point-and-shoot photos requires little time and effort.
I don't mind when rendered images are used for basic parts. I even prefer them
for consistency. I am mostly frustrated with the rendering of more complex parts.
Curves are often left out or surface detail is eschewed. Part 30413 comes to
mind first. The part rendering does not show the rounded corners.
I don't have a problem with submitting a photo to replace a photo if it is the
wrong color or out of focus, but since the image submission instructions say
that digital renderings are preferred I don't feel okay with submitting photos
to replace them.

Why not submiting your new photograph in the forum and ask other bricklinkers
if they think yours is better and should replace the existing one?
Just a suggestion.
I like that idea. I also changed my mind about my suggestion after seeing 2
of my image submissions and realizing they are incorrectly color corrected.
