I have seen SO many posts relating to people COLLECTING LEGO and OLDER LEGO...

Some range from "why is my submission of this older, varied brick not getting
completed" to questions about older items in the catalog...to values of older
sets.

There was once, maybe it is too long ago to be searched, of a current inventory
admin or catmin saying that he/she did not 'hurry' or 'rush' older items because
"not that many people are concerned about them"....which I think is total rubbish.

There should even be a forum topic selection for "collectors"....but there isn't...

Just a thought...what might YOU think and why?

The idea of a forum topic for vintage LEGO is great, e.g. timeframe 1949-1980's
as described by the CD of Gary Istok: THE UNOFFICIAL LEGO SETS/PARTS COLLECTORS
GUIDE.

Sounds great. But after implementing that there could follow some more requests?!

Great idea !!! And as long as old versions of parts are not inventoried separately
in the catalog (thus enabling EXACT inventory of older sets), people will continue
selling old sets containing the wrong parts.

Hi there Lego Mongoose... Am I right??
Your memory is very good C.
It was about some inventory change requests of mine, waiting for months for approval.
If I'm correct it was Emma telling me about 'no priority because of minor interest
of older Lego'.

I voted yes, thinking it was about creating another Topic for Collectors. There
is a topic for MOC I believe, so why not. But choosing 'Collectors' doesn't mean
it will only be used for older Lego. You can also collect Modular Buildings.

I'm not sure what you mean by another Admin. I think there's only room for 1.
Or do you mean an Inventory- / Catalog Admin??

Yes, an Admin for COLLECTOR/OLDER/VINTAGE inventory etc....NOT an overall "ADMIN"

Very good suggestions:

I vote yes on both (a collector admin, if possible & a forum topic for collectors)!

Hi LM

GREAT idea!!! A forum topic for collectors/buyers/sellers of older Lego (until
~1980)
would be a great help by means having a filter. Why not call it "vintage"?!

Cheers

Then there would be the issue of where to "draw the line;" personally I'd lean
towards about 1978 as the dividing line, as that was when the "modern minifig"
was introduced.

I wouldn't call it (just) "vintage". There are people out there who think a self
made ring with a new Lego brick on it is vintage

You are SO right Diana!

How many things labeled 'RARE' on the Fleabay sites are actually rare? By who's
standard?

Not mine! Or yours! Diana, let them see some of your and my collections and
they will know RARE!!!

Yep, don't search Fleabay for Lego Vintage or Lego Rare you will find Lego garbage!
And LM, I have this other place to share my rare.......

Hi

Yes a forum will be fine, an admin don't know...

We have already an ADMIN for the old collection but he don't have the 'admin
title'
'Gary' is his name!

LEGO
Events
Real-life community events, gatherings, shows, etc.
LEGO
Discussion about LEGO in general.
Media
Discussion about LEGO related news other than new products.
My Own Creation
Discussion and showcasing of Original LEGO creations.
New Sets
Discussion about Sets and Themes not yet released or recently released.
Vintage 1932-1982
Discussion about Sets, Parts and all LEGO released this period.

I would add this last one (the other ones are existing Topics in LEGO.
This is an example. Why 1932-1982? Because this is my collection period.

LM, again, why would you need a special admin for special items?
What exactly are you missing from the current admins and what would you expect
from such an admin what the current catalog and inventory admins don't serve
in your opinion?

I believe he's suggesting having a NEW subsection of the catalog for vintage
items/variants and that having an "new/additional" admin for just that area would
allow the existing admins to concentrate on the regular entries, essentially
lightening your workload while still providing some thing for the minority.

I am hoping you are NOT thinking that I somehow think you all do a bad job?
That would be the furthest from the truth...you all do an AWESOME job...but you
are overwhelmed and as Troy says, the 'collectors' make up a smaller portion
of the BL population. So instead of adding to your work, by adding a similar
Admin for collectible/older/vintage/variant(s) items would address the need for
this without adding to your work load.

Again...please...I mean NO disrespect-you all do an awesome job.

.... and if there are some members out there, who don't like all those discussions
about vintage Lego, like there are about 'all those inventory change requests',
they can simply hide them (IF there is a separate Topic).
