Hi,

Customer paid via paypal offline. Did not use the BL invoice PAY button.

Payment is received. However, I am unable to change the status to paid and shipped.

How do I change the status in this situation?

Seems like a software bug.

Thanks.

yes

Then you have to refund them and have them pay onsite. Otherwise your keeping
tax money which let’s just say is highly illegal… and no there is no workaround
or way to “pay” it to the right people it can only be done with onsite payment

yes

So then the offsite payment was not a valid payment as it included tax which
was not to be paid to you.

The only way forward is:
(1) to refund the payment fully
(2) to tell the customer to pay again, but this time through the OnSite link
only
(3) to change your templates so that customers won't pay you offsite by mistake
(have a different e-mail address for PayPal)

And finally, enjoy the lesson learned though be it the hard way.

If there are taxes collected then the person has to pay on BL so that the funds
can get passed on.
If there are no taxes, then you can submit a ticket to the help desk to authorize
your store for off-site payment. But this will not work if there is taxes or
VAT.

Cheers!

Refund their payment and have them pay again using the PayPal Onsite button they

I believe this thread may be about me?
First , I'm not trying to be a pain. I had a paypal account for years but
there was some issues and the account has been closed. When I click the link
to pay onsite, the first thing I see is the "Log in" screen for paypal.
I CANT LOG IN, and I can't make an account. I don't know why I can't
send a payment with my credit card through PayPal without logging IN to PayPal.
(BTW, I purchased a few pieces from BRICKOWL last week...the buyer takes his
payments through PayPal, but when I received that invoice (onsite) it allowed
me to pay with a credit card WITHOUT logging into PayPal. )

I've tried to place another order on this site with another vendor and haven't
heard anything back so I'm guessing that this won't be an option for
me?
Very frustrating. Any suggestions on my end? I have several carts full and I
would like to be a buyer.

From earlier discussions here, it seems BrickLink’s use of “PayPal for Marketplaces”
(= “PayPal Onsite”) doesn’t allow to use PayPal without an account… or in a very
hidden way.

It’s generally not a big problem because it’s rare not to be able to have a PayPal
account and having an account increases the buyer’s protection from PayPal.

PayPal offsite (called “PayPal” here) still works without a PP account.
But 1: For most US buyers, Onsite is mandatory because BrickLink has to collect
sales taxes.
As you’re in Delaware and there’s no sales taxes / no obligation for BL to
collect sales taxes in Delaware, you should be able to use it.
But 2: Not all sellers propose it.

You may also use Stripe: no need for an account (and BL can collect taxes through
Stripe).
But then again, not all sellers propose it.

So, to sum up: you can buy here, but from sellers who offer PayPal (not Onsite)
and/or Stripe.

Have you opened a support ticket with PayPal? It almost sounds like there's
a cookie or other site tracking device blocking you from logging into PayPal.
You should update your operating system and browser, to ensure that the latest
updates are in place, and that the browser you're using is up to date.

Some forum posters have pointed out that PayPal's phone support may be better
than filing a support request online. I don't know if that would be the same
experience for you.

You should also open a support ticket with BrickLink, although it may take them
a while to get to your issue, due to the backlog they're working through
due to the November 2023 incident.

If you have an alternate email address you can use to register a brand new account
with PayPal, try that, and see if it will allow you to link that to a funding
source, and pay Onsite through BrickLink.

That's about all I can think of that you might want to try, if you haven't
already done so.

Bear in mind, however, that even if you are in a state that does not collect
sales tax, PayPal Onsite will be required if it is an overseas transaction or
to a US state that requires the collection of sales tax.

Cheers ...
