| Over the years we've had our share of let's say 'intriguing'
questions from prospective buyers.
Today's example "How much for all of the Luke’s?" that's it,
nothing further. For context, there are many Luke's listed on BrickLink,
we currently have 10 different Luke's. A brand new member (a few days old)
so they automatically receive an overabundance of understand.
How serious do you or should you, take such inquires though? It actually can
be fun trying pull meaning from the communication of some, to decipher without
asking for clarification, is sort of a challenge
Now curious, how do you sellers typically respond to such messages?

Got a message the other day asking if all the parts and minifigures came with
a $2 instruction book (the set averages almost $50). Politely explained that
I was only selling the instruction book.
The odd question I've gotten most often is "how many parts do I receive
if I order one of this?" They aren't even parts with confusing pictures
that show multiple perspectives and could be interpreted as being multiple copies,
as recently discussed in the forum. And why would anyone ever think that putting
a quantity of "one" means you get more than one? I respond by telling
them that a quantity of one means one part, which is what is pictured in the
catalog entry and the listing.
I've gotten my share of "why can't you ship to Canada for $5?"
messages, as I assume most of us have. One potential buyer even got so aggressive
about it that I had to block them -- and I was the only seller in the world
who had the quantity they wanted. It would've been a $100+ order, too, so
I don't understand why $10 of shipping was that important, or why they couldn't
understand that Letter Mail isn't available for $100+ e-commerce orders (or
any e-commerce orders) despite me repeating it three times.
I try to respond to the vast majority of messages politely and without condescension,
unless they're aggressive.

Good input. Interesting, and no doubt relatable to most sellers here and elsewhere.
Your anecdotes, I share as seller. They almost fascinate more than frustrate
Like, I want to know what the other's thought process could possibly be...
Which in turn, I know I'll never know. So yeah, frustrating.

It can be quite frustrating when a buyer assumes your a mind reader or when they
seemingly can't be bothered to string a proper sentence together especially
when you find yourself spending a lot more time typing lengthy replies back in
an attempt to decipher exactly what they are asking?
Literally last week I had a buyer send me a question about a £65 item I was selling
on ebay and this is the question I received in its full exact entirety:-
55?
Now I was tempted to reply back "No sorry I only have four left in-stock"
knowing full well they meant £55 but then I also thought does this 3 character
question even deserve such a lengthy 8 worded reply and so I then considered
replying back "no 4" to give them a riddle of their own to work out?
As it happened their unusual questioning style only led me to check what sort
of feedback they tend to leave for other sellers which was enough to put them
on my stop list!
As a general rule if they are asking for your time or a discount and yet can't
bothered to include either a please or thank you within the same sentence they
are probably not worth dealing with in my view!

Just plain weird.
I was speaking to my mother last night, we haven't spoken since my brother's
passing. It was a very nice and long conversation with some crying and laughing.
In that conversation, she shared what my brother had already told me, that she
had a favorite chicken as a child. That she so loved that bird, that her father
would let her take it with her in the car sometimes. My brother, when he got
laying hens for his garden (pics in the forum) named one after my mother's
beloved hen. That he had already shared this with me, I didn't mention to
her last night.
Even so, I don't believe my mother's love for poultry was carried into
adulthood, and therefore you can't be my father, wildchicken How's
that for truth skirting the strange, or strange skirting the truth...
Thanks for the humor you bring to the forum, wildchicken13. It's appreciated
more than perhaps you know

Yeah, I’ve pretty much always treated the BL forum as a type of therapy, as another
tool to heal myself with. I've said as much before here. I’ve a lot demons
from my past that just won’t let me be. Nowadays, I've an amount of sadness
to overcome too. Helping others helps me, and so does laying it out there raw
and exposed for all to see.
I canceled my post as I sometimes do, cognizant that by leaving them up, my “sentimentality”
as you put it, may make others too uncomfortable. I do leave such posts up long
enough for some to read, but read it and move on. Just don't want my “therapy
sessions” to make others too uncomfortable here in our beloved forum.
I will always want others to feel and think more, which often is uncomfortable
for us all.
I've no qualms were a Mod to reinstate the post.

It's a free forum, we're all here because LEGO is a building/creative

| Not quite the same as others say but something that happens weirdly often is
on eBay someone send me an offer for an item I then send them a counter offer.
They then decline my counter off and pay full price. I’ve had it happen like
5-10 times now and it’s really weird

Barely, but enough that I could decipher what they were seeking. No specific
item number or such, just how many we had listed and an adjective to go
with "Luke"
I don't mind really. Like I said, it's kind of a fun challenge

| How much to ship to (country)?
Between 10 and 500 Euro, I guess?
We're not that clairvoyant that we can read minds 1000 km's away of what
they exactly want us to ship.
Usually we list the two cheapest methods we offer with a range of weights.
Mostly that settles the question. If they're really interested they'll
order or follow up.
No need to be to snippy about it. Some people aren't that fluent in english
and wouldn't know how to describe stuff.
Some people just order and cancel once they see the costs of shipping. Happens
too.

I hate the ones just say something to the effect of:
"How much to ship this set?"
and don't mention set number or any kind of description what they are asking
about and also don't provide a zip code or any sort of location.
I get these at least a couple times a month. I've just stopped responding
to them. I have instant checkout on for all items I have listed in my store
at this point.

Now, we constantly add to our inventory and have a ton of parts yet to be listed.
It still is a somewhat silly question i think.

Hi Christian;
I have added numerous parts with multiple amounts, to my parts list.
Ther is nowhere on the page to purchase.
I did read somewhere that I should have added the part to my wanted list.
That would have made it easier for purchase.

It depends as there are a lot of sellers that split their inventory across multiple
platforms also there are many other sellers that intentionally hold back stock
for other reasons. If you list your entire stock in one go, someone at some point
will come along and buy out your entire remaining inventory simply because you
are one of the cheapest and selling way below current market value or because
your item has become scarce with very few others selling it!
Sometimes its better to list smaller portions of your stock at a time so that
each time you sell out of a part you can re-evaluate its current market value/rarity.
Having the ability to continually replenish rare or desirable stock encourages
more shoppers to your store who might not otherwise bother to visit!
