Hello,

I am really wishing I did not buy a used/incomplete Lego set! 😳 It’s missing
pieces that I am trying to figure out and order before I actually build. So I
am figuring out how to order. I have some general questions and then some specific
to the Lego set with missing parts 75947 (Hagrid’s Hut: Buckbeak’s Rescue).

General questions:

1. If only 3 bags (of parts) are shown in the instructions for a set, does that
mean are there ONLY 3 bags? The 3 bags are numbered (1, 2, and 3) in the instructions.
At the start of the instructions it shows a photo of bag 1 and the start of a
building and some minifigs, another photo of bag 2 with the rest of the building
completed and additional minifigs, and another photo of bag 3 with decorations
and a second building. No other bags besides these 3 are shown in the whole 100+
page instructions.

2. I have looked up several missing part numbers in the back of the the official
Lego instructions, but none of the part numbers match up to those on Bricklink
where I started creating a wishlist.

3. I got offer emails last night from the first few parts I added to my wishlist
on Bricklink, but in all four of the seller emails a quantity is specified (that
equals the max amount of money that I entered in my wishlist—that I am willing
to spend for that part). Should I care? I mean I will not place an order based
on offer emails and have turned off receiving email notifications from now on
now anyway.

Specific to set 75947 questions:

1 a There was a small factory-sealed “mystery” bag of mostly loose parts (some,
like the minifigs, still attached together) included in the gallon-size zipper
bag that included the printed instructions for the set. This mystery bag is fairly
small and is not numbered. It cannot be bag 1, 2, or 3 from the set—as it does
not contain enough and the correct parts if the answer to general question number
1 is correct/true. However, the mystery bag does contain a specific-to Harry-Potter
part that is in this set (already present in the gallon bag of loose parts).
The other pieces in this mystery bag appear to be random building trim pieces
and stems, leaves, branches, and three connector-type pins—one blue, two black.
What about this whole mystery bag?

1 b I noticed a unique gray cone-shaped part 4296788 (from the Instructions)
(aka same part 3943b for the set on Bricklink) in with the loose pieces (that
per the instructions there should be a quantity of 2 for the set but there is
just the one). See two attached photos to see this part. From looking at box
photo/Instructions, this cone piece is part of the roof on both roofs on the
two buildings in this set. So the question is: Is there a better way to tell
which (if any) supporting pieces (by/of) for this one that are missing, other
than looking at the instructions for those in immediate proximity to it (where
it attaches to the roofs on both buildings)? Besides starting to build the set?

Thank you,
tabbunny

  Hello,

Hi and welcome,

Famous last words

I have some general questions and then some specific
to the Lego set with missing parts 75947 (Hagrid’s Hut: Buckbeak’s Rescue).

Set No: 75947 Name: Hagrid's Hut: Buckbeak's Rescue
*
75947-1 (Inv) Hagrid's Hut: Buckbeak's Rescue
470 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 2019
Sets: Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban

  General questions:

1. If only 3 bags (of parts) are shown in the instructions for a set, does that
mean are there ONLY 3 bags? […]

No.  Many sets have multiple different bags with the same number.  (“Different”
as in: they don’t have the same content.)

You’ll have to find some confirmation of the bags somewhere (it’s not on BrickLink).
That can be: rebrickable, youtube unboxing, some reviews, or images on brickshelf/bricksafe/bricksomething.

  2. I have looked up several missing part numbers in the back of the the official
Lego instructions, but none of the part numbers match up to those on Bricklink
where I started creating a wishlist.

The numbers there are ElementID (PCC here), they combine mould (shape) and colour
in one number.
BL IDs are based on the DesignID, the mould/shape.

You can still search for the ElementIDs on BrickLink, they’ll lead you to the
parts’ pages, with the correct colour pre-selected and a note on top explaning
that the PCC ### is for this part ### in colour ###.

If you start from a set, the simplest is to look at the inventory of that set
(click “Inv” in the vignette above) or “part out” ( https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/partout.page
) the set in a Wanted List.

now anyway.

Notifications are sent when a seller adds new parts to their store.
For common parts, it’s rather useless.

Better use the Buy page once your Wante List is complete.

I’ll let others answer those….

Look up the bricklink set inventory for this set.

If you use the Part Out Set function and compare to the parts you do have, then
you should be able to see what you are missing.
