| found part number 42018 on part
im 99% certain its the light bluish gray version that has the alternate number
and not the light gray version (light bluish gray lines seem "thicker"
as it's practically impossible to tell light gray from light bluish gray
even side by side for the print of this part)
alternate number
42018pb03
(sorry for having multiple requests instead of just 1 but I've got limited
desk room right now as I'm sorting thru lots of larger stickered/printed
parts so i cant leave parts laying around for to long to double check before
posting)

| Hi Nubs (or anyone else),
I see that this thread is set to "Completed", but I was wondering if
there is any other method to convincingly tell parts 30366pb02 and 30366pb03
apart.
I have seven of these that I have pulled from various bulk lots. The pattern
colour appears to be LBG, which corresponds to pb03, yet the lines on all seven
are thin and defined, which corresponds to pb02. In the BrickLink comparison
image, the "thick" lines for the LBG version are not apparent on any
of my seven.
I did find the alternate number 42018 on two of the seven, making those two the
LBG pb03 version, yet this does not conclusively prove which version the other
five are.
Furthermore, it was noted that in the BL comparison image, there is a black diagonal
line closing off the bottom triangles near the horizontal inverted studs near
the base on the LBG pb03 version, yet this bottom line is missing on the LG pb02
version. In my seven, I see that five do have the line and two do not, but once
again, the colour tone for all seven really looks like LBG. Is the presence/absence
of this horizontal line just a printing error, or is it a conclusive difference
between the LG and LBG versions?
Any guidance will be appreciated,
Dennis

It looks like the easy way to tell them apart are to look at those "dots"
around the window.
Do remember that both LG and LBG has color variants.
pb03 have Black dots
pb02 have Black circles

| Thank you for the response, taxan.
I count 26 dots/circles on the outer side of the ring, and another 6 on the inner
edge of the ring. For the seven that I have, as well as in the BL comparison
image, it looks like all of them are circles. I cannot see any "dots".
Would you be able to indicate on the 30366pb03 image where the dots are?

Agreed! The dots and circles, the red arrows aren't identical on both versions!

Joking aside, I can’t see what difference the arrows are supposed to point to.
Circles’ diff seem to be either that:
— there’s a bolt in one version but not the other (but maybe it’s hidden by the
circle,
— or there’s no black line at the bottom… but that could just be a slight misalignment
/ print error and not intentional.

I've come around to the thinking that this part was not split correctly.
I have 2 different shades of 'thin' versions (very subtle) and 'thin'
versions that are the exact same color as 'thick' ones. It's a mess.

| Nubs, if you don't mind, I can see that according to your store's inventory,
you have both the LG pb02 AND the LBG pb03 available in stock. Can you take a
peek at both and see if there is any discernable difference between them? How
did you manage to determine that one is pb02 and one is pb03?
I suspect that the quality of the LBG image in the BL catalog may not be as good,
which is why the circles appear as dots and the "thicker" lines are actually
just blurry.
On the other hand, there are at present 501 items available for the Light Gray
version, so each of those must have been distinguished from the LBG version somehow.
I just can't tell what it is!

Then the dots are then probable a thick circles that and you cant see the
LBG color inside them.
