First time post here - looking for some guidance if possible.
I picked up a big box of mixed Lego at a charity shop recently in the U.K. that
contained 5 Lego motor / control parts but no battery power unit. So at the moment
I don’t have a clear idea what to do these these or how to power them. I’ve been
able to find ID numbers for some of the parts but that doesn’t help me immediately
on the usage front.

- 2838 motor
- A motor with the ref 21K7 on one end
- A black vehicle with a motor inside. Only ref I can find was ‘B2’.
- 14486 IR receiver (has 23K7 ref inside)
- 16514 IR emitter control (has 19K7 ref inside)

Thanks for any/all advice.

You can find the parts in the catalog (https://www.bricklink.com/catalogTree.asp?itemType=P)
under 'electric' and 'electric, motor'

For powering the XL motor (the big round one) I would recommend either of the
following battery boxes:

Set No: 8881 Name: Power Functions Battery Box
*
8881-1 (Inv) Power Functions Battery Box
1 Part, 2008
Sets: Power Functions

Set No: 88000 Name: Power Functions AAA Battery Box
*
88000-1 (Inv) Power Functions AAA Battery Box
1 Part, 2011
Sets: Power Functions

Attach the cable from the IR receiver to the battery box, and then attach the
cable from the motor to one of the ports on the receiver. You can then use the
remote control to activate the motor. Make sure the remote and receiver are set
to the same channel. You can also plug the motor directly into the battery box
and use the switch on the battery to activate it.

For

Part No: 2838c01  Name: Electric, Motor 9V 5 x 4 x 2 1/3 with Dark Gray Base
*
2838c01 Electric, Motor 9V 5 x 4 x 2 1/3 with Dark Gray Base
Parts: Electric, Motor {Light Gray}

Part No: x550a  Name: Electric, Motor 12V 12 x 4 x 3 1/3 with Two Side Holes (Train)
*
x550a (Inv) Electric, Motor 12V 12 x 4 x 3 1/3 with Two Side Holes (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor {Black}

I am not sure what to do with those since those are a bit before my time. You
could look at sets that contain these pieces to see how they are used. You may
need to buy some additional components to get them to work. They may not work
anymore since they are old.

Hope that helps.
