There are 2 different versions indeed and a third version as DELUXE TRAIN SET,
Instructions H-2406 U.S.A..

The second version of set 116 is indeed identical to 127 (the instruction that
is).
But now you submitted the same change requests (plates) for set 127 and the first
version of set 116.

I will check the requests for both set 116 and 127 later.

Back in 2009 I didn't know about Match-id number 99. Or maybe it wasn't
even used at that time. But I already knew back then that there were 2 versions.
Unfortunately my comments are gone, so I will have to start over checking which
alternate items should have match id 99 indeed.

http://www.peeron.com/scans/116-1/

http://www.peeron.com/scans/127-1/

See

For first version, I counted the following bricks:

Part No: 3023  Name: Plate 1 x 2
*
3023 Plate 1 x 2
Parts: Plate {Black}
5 step 4
3 step 6
2 step 7

The second version has those plates like above, total of 10.
The first version has the fifth plate of step 4 between the 2x3 plate and 2x2
slope (front of loco). Step 6 and 7 are the same as in the second version, total
also 10.

Part No: 3022  Name: Plate 2 x 2
*
3022 Plate 2 x 2
Parts: Plate {Black}
3 step 7
1 step 7

The second layer of the roof (step 7) needs 3 of these plates, which makes a
total of 6.
It is very hard to tell based on the instructions, but at the moment that is
all the 'proof' there is.
Maybe in the future someone can proof the exact plates for this second layer,
but my guess is, that this can only be proved by opening a sealed set and counting
all plates.

Part No: 3021  Name: Plate 2 x 3
*
3021 Plate 2 x 3
Parts: Plate {Black}
3 step 3
2 step 6

The second version indeed has those plates like mentioned above.
The first version has 2 in step 3, 1 in step 4 and 2 in step 6.
Both versions a total of 5.

Part No: 3020  Name: Plate 2 x 4
*
3020 Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Plate {Black}
6 step 7
2 step 8

Same for both versions.

I will check the requests for both set 116 and 127 later.

even used at that time. But I already knew back then that there were 2 versions.

alternate items should have match id 99 indeed.

Diana

Although I checked very secure, I made some mistakes with changes on the black
plates 1x2 and 2x2, but it is all correct now. My apology for those mistakes.

To make it understandable all alternate parts between version 1 and 2 are now
in the inventory with match-id 99. This is exactly as the 2 sets I have in my
collection.
This doesn't mean for sure that all alternate items didn't come in both
versions though:
- all regular items came in the first version of this set
- alternate motor, battery box and wire came only came in the second version
of this set
- printed '116' bricks only came in the second version (see below)
- other alternate items could be found in both versions

Part No: 3008  Name: Brick 1 x 8
*
3008 Brick 1 x 8
Parts: Brick {Black}
I added 4 alternate match-id 99, for my oldest version came with 6 #3008 and
my second version with 4 #3008 and 2 decorated '116' bricks.

Part No: 3008pb008 Name: Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Centered
*
3008pb008 Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Centered
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Black}

Part No: 3008pb008L Name: Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Left
*
3008pb008L Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Left
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Black}

Part No: 3008pb008R Name: Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Right
*
3008pb008R Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Right
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Black}

I believe the first version didn't have those decorated '116'
bricks, but I am not sure if the second version had them from the start

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Inventory, including these changes are all made based on the 2 different
Instructions and by building those 2 versions of the set.

If anyone has a sealed set laying around (both versions), please feel very welcome
to add some clear images to this thread

There are two versions of instructions.
The version 1966-68 is uploaded on peeron
http://www.peeron.com/scans/116-1/

The version 1969-71 is the same as that of 127
http://www.peeron.com/scans/127-1/

See
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1326144

For first version, I counted the following bricks:

Part No: 3023  Name: Plate 1 x 2
*
3023 Plate 1 x 2
Parts: Plate {Black}
5 step 4
3 step 6
2 step 7

The second version has those plates like above, total of 10.
The first version has the fifth plate of step 4 between the 2x3 plate and 2x2
slope (front of loco).

My first mistake. I had not seen this plate. Wow!

Step 6 and 7 are the same as in the second version, total
  also 10.

Part No: 3022  Name: Plate 2 x 2
*
3022 Plate 2 x 2
Parts: Plate {Black}
3 step 7
1 step 7

The second layer of the roof (step 7) needs 3 of these plates, which makes a
total of 6.

My second mistake: I didn't or couldn't see properly the second layer.
I thought there were one 2x2 and one 2x4 plates instead of three 2x2 plates.
Sorry for that.

Parts: Plate {Black}
3 step 3
2 step 6

The second version indeed has those plates like mentioned above.
The first version has 2 in step 3, 1 in step 4 and 2 in step 6.
Both versions a total of 5.

Part No: 3020  Name: Plate 2 x 4
*
3020 Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Plate {Black}
6 step 7
2 step 8

Same for both versions.

- alternate motor, battery box and wire came only came in the second version
of this set

The black motor
[p=bb0007,11]
only came in very early releases of this set. For a short period of time in 1967
or just late 1967, the black (and blue) motors came with 4.5 Volt embossed on
them

Part No: bb0007c01pb01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
*
bb0007c01pb01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
Parts: Electric, Motor
The black (and blue) colors and this motor is orphan and I still don't know
if the black one was used in any copy of the early version train 116. It is gonna
be a relief if we find at least one used copy with black

Part No: bb0007c01pb01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
*
bb0007c01pb01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
Parts: Electric, Motor
The thing is that it is very hard to find a black or blue copy of this type
of motor.

  - printed '116' bricks only came in the second version (see below)
- other alternate items could be found in both versions

This train in both versions appear quite regularly in the market of Germany.
As of today, I have not seen any copy coming with decorated 1x8 bricks.
In Uk, the second copy came as set "127" so no such bricks in UK neither.
I have not checked the markets of Italy and France but it is interesting if these
bricks were only found in the Netherlands (and Belgium?), whether this is true
or not.

Part No: 3008  Name: Brick 1 x 8
*
3008 Brick 1 x 8
Parts: Brick {Black}

Parts: Brick, Decorated {Black}

Part No: 3008pb008L Name: Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Left
*
3008pb008L Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Left
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Black}

Part No: 3008pb008R Name: Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Right
*
3008pb008R Brick 1 x 8 with Gold '116' Pattern Right
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Black}

I believe the first version didn't have those decorated '116'
bricks, but I am not sure if the second version had them from the start

So based on my findings in the market of Germany, I am pretty sure these bricks
were only used in very late production runs; an yet, there are two variations
of them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Inventory, including these changes are all made based on the 2 different
Instructions and by building those 2 versions of the set.

More changes to come.

  If anyone has a sealed set laying around (both versions), please feel very welcome
to add some clear images to this thread

Diana

Thanks for checking this set and these inventory change requests.

With these old sets it's best to look at the Instruction, Box Images ánd
actually build the set.
