| I'm new to Bricklink, but is it common to get gouged on shipping when purchasing
off Bricklink? I'm trying to purchase an original box for my Lego and the
seller is trying to charge $25.50 USD for shipping!

Where are you buying from ?
Shipping costs in Canada are expensives, based on weight, dimensions and distance.
For example, it's more costly for you to buy in NB than BC. Also, a boxed
set normally has an additional exterior box to protect it and is bigger and weights
more.
25$ for a box set can be a normal cost depending on the details. If in doubt,
go on the website of the postal carrier (Canada Post, USPS or other) and put
in yourself the weight and dimensions.
Hope that helps.

The dimensions for the box are on the catalogue page, input those into a shipping
calculator, adding a bit of room for a shipping box, and you can tell the rates
and services available and if they're outlandishly different from the quotation.
Generally, an empty box costs as much as a complete set to ship. $25USD across
Canada or from the US sounds about right for a mid-large sized parcel. I just
paid nearly that for a small 12x10x6 parcel from Seattle.

| What makes you think this is gouging? How did you reach this conclusion? Shipping,
especially int'l, has gotten very expensive the past few years.

Sounds reasonable to me from what I know and understand about the actual cost
to ship from the USA to any international destination.

I wouldn't be so quick to conclude that this is gouging. Boxes are difficult
to handle because of their dimensions - they can be flattened, in some cases,
but not folded.
