| I bought an item with a fixed price and a fixed shipping price. Now the seller
is telling me they can't ship to me at that price because the price for shipping
is too low. They will send me an adjusted invoice once they figure out the new
shipping cost. Is this an acceptable practice to increase the cost after someone
has bought and paid for it?

| Personally, no. It was my mistake and I eat the difference. It's all about
updating the postal cost on your store chart IF you use instant checkout. It's
not up to the buyer to worry about "IF" the sellers info is up to date with the
usps/fedex/ups etc.
But that's my opinion.

NO! That is totally unacceptable. Is this a newer seller? Is it an international
order?
When I have made mistakes on shipping calculations before, I just eat the costs
and learn from my mistake.

While technically I don't think there is anything "illegal" about it, it
is a very poorly looked upon practice. The seller should take responsibility
for his error.

Obviously this is a seller that does not use IC. Are they inside, or outside
of the USA ?
If you stick to IC sellers, you will see the shipping at the time you make payment.

Re-read the title: “after paid for item,” so IC is not out, au contraire, an
error in the seller’s IC setup might be the reason.

Seller is in the US. Has been selling for close to 10 years. All positive reviews.
Shipping was shown in the final price of the item. I guess wasn't happy
with their profit so tried getting more money out of me.
|
Or they just settup the auto-invoicing wrong and the calculated shipping was
lower than the real shipping.
(Which doesn’t excuse the rudeness but might explain the change.)

Sounds like a new seller.
I'm a new seller too, but i've owned up to my shipping miscalculations.
Fifty cents here or there shouldn't make or break someone. Matter of fact
I invoice someone today and didn't realize shipping wasn't included.
All I could do was shake my head and honor the mistake.

It's about ethics and it works both ways..
Would you send a Lego set bought you priced $1 instead of $1000 in error?
Without the specifics it's hard to determine the answer...
Just recently I found out that I mistakenly quoted registered envelope prices
for some countries.. Our postal system's pricing just changed and there is
no zones, weird all different pricing for each country even with a currency that
practically doesn't exist physically (SDR)... Just after updating the prices
for the correct values I saw one order slipped in... (Maybe Bricklink is caching
the values because that order might have arrived after my update)
Humanly... There was that option that I would ask the customer for the actual
shipping price vs erroneous price the customer has paid and which I've entered
previously... (It's 2€)
It was my mistake nonetheless... At least I had thought my shipping prices were
competetive for some time not being aware that I quoted the mail (not packet)
prices...
Good thing, I got my very first order from UK
ps: Unfairly, our postal office workers call it a packet if you put something
that can be felt with the touch of the hand even if it's in an envelope...

This is irrelevant. It is unlikely the shipping cost was quoted at $1 but really
costs $1000.

It's an exaggeration but relevant nonetheless... Error big or small is an
error in the end... We don't know the specifics in your story such as what
was the shipping you paid, what would be the actual shipping charge if seller
didn't make the error?

Just saw this in store with almost 7K orders:
| Domestic Order Policies: Your order is invoiced with a shipping estimate and no parts are pulled. Once the order is paid for, we will begin pulling parts and packaging. If any part is not in stock, you will always have the option to cancel the entire order and receive a full refund, or the part cost will be refunded as well as any overage in ship cost - your choice. *Should actual ship costs exceed estimate a second invoice will be sent.* The order will not ship until the balance is paid in full.
|
I was just about to place an order, but that's BS.

What it means is ... the seller had the capability to do an estimate, and they
did a poor job of it. If the seller has that opportunity, and screws it up, they
should be liable for an NSS.

Terrible policy. I would least favorite the store (so it doesn't show up
in Want List searches) and move on.

Absolutely not once it is invoiced it should be done. If a seller is worried
about Instant Checkout causing problems they need to use it's functions to
exclude large sets to require a manual invoice. Bricklink could make a rule
about this but it has no way of enforcing it short of taking away seller's
privilege's, that is the only course of action they can take for any rule
breaking. They are merely a facilitator in the transaction.

Is the seller over estimates shipping do they resend an invoice with the lower
shipping costs?
I think we all know the answer to that one.

In the past, way in the past I have received refunds for shipping overcharges.
Thru Paypal or thru loose change in the order.
