Lego released this year an incredible number of Direct to Consumer sets. I was
wondering if this has affected the price or number of sales of older sets?

I think there are too many other important variables - covid and home working
/ not working being one of them. New adult focused sets may seem bad as there
are more interesting current things to buy, but then they may be good as they
bring in new fans that realise they have missed something in the past that they
really want.

Some of the bigger decade old Star Wars sets, and slightly younger LOTR sets
have been doing very well on ebay recently. So long as there is not a decent
current alternative at a cheaper price, old sets will probably hold value.

You bring a very good point. Also, the mindset could be going from get all sets
to get a specific lines (architecture, star wars, modular, cars, stadium etc...)

Is there a good way to see if a set has appreciated or depreciated in value?

I think brickpicker has a tool to do it. Although I tend to look once a month
or so at any larger sets I might think about selling in the next year or so -
on ebay and BL, looking at both price and the volumes sold and available and
keep my own records for those sets.

Recently I have found prices to be higher and selling speed faster on ebay than
here (new and used, but sets and not parts). That might suggest they are being
bought by people new to LEGO rather than people in the know about other places
to buy retired LEGO.

My supplier sells those sets along the rest of the range, do for me it's
just business as usual.
Besides, I noticed things being called "D2C" that are just normal sets available
through the regular retail channels, such as the Ninjago City Gardens.
