Hello! I’ve noticed recently that some sales data when you look at global sales
of a particular element goes back beyond the traditional six month cut off. It’s
usually very spotty though, just a few purchase examples. There’s no blue box,
so I don’t think it’s my purchases, but then perhaps the blue box doesn’t appear
because the order is no longer on the system after six months?

Can anyone illuminate me?

Perhaps because NPB, NPX, NRS, NSS orders aren't purged?

NPB completed orders are not purged, I guess BrickLink needs to be able to prove
it.
Don't know for how long though. The oldest NPB order in my sales history
is from nov 2019 but I'm quite sure there have been older orders NPB'd.
So.. maybe 2 years?

I have a NPB from February 2020 for this part:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3065#T=P&C=12

The NPB still shows in my Orders Received page but it is not listed in the 6
month data, yet there are orders from 2017 and 2018 listed. Weird.

Assuming you’re referring to the listing page Price Guides?

I did some checking and you’re right, some items I’ve dealt in, both bought and
sold (blue and yellow boxes) which normally are limited to 6 months as stated,
go back 7-8 months. Some 2017, 2018, 2019 months are shown, or as you
put it “spotty”

I can post screenshots of examples when I get back, heading out now. If it's
what you're talking about...

Okay, after re-reading your post, I see that I may have misunderstood as usual
It's not the duration of sales price history, but your own activity shown
with the blue and yellow boxes, that you wish clarified. I defer to others.

I'm replying to my own post to keep and highlight the other point, of past
years sales history occasionally showing up in the 6 months price guide.
Maybe some others can explain that anomaly to a dummy like me.
