Set No: 7725 Name: Electric Passenger Train
*
7725-1 (Inv) Electric Passenger Train
483 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1981
Sets: Train: 12V

* Add 1 Part 765c96 Light Gray Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with four 1-prong connectors, 96 Studs Long

It has been some time that we noticed the part

Part No: 765c96  Name: Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared (x466c96 / 765c01)
*
765c96 (Inv) Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared (x466c96 / 765c01)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
came with sets 7730, 7740 (released in 1980) and 7725 (released in 1981). This
cable were seen in various boxed sets (in sealed, MISB, or excellent used condition).
We had three questions to ask:
1) What is the length of this wire?
2) Did it come in all releases or it was extra or it came only for some period?
In other words, did this wire came in all releases of 7730 from 1980-82? (for
7740, between 1980-84 and for 7725 between 1981-84)
3) The owners of this set need the transformer

Part No: 7864 Name: Electric, Train 12V Transformer for 220V - Type 3
*
7864 Electric, Train 12V Transformer for 220V - Type 3
Parts: Electric, Train
This transformer came with the same wire

Part No: 765c96  Name: Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared (x466c96 / 765c01)

765c96 (Inv) Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared (x466c96 / 765c01)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
. So why did TLG include another
one in the boxes of these sets? Just as an extra?

We think we found the answer to these questions and we think that the last question
is the most important one.
First I give the answers we have for these three questions and then on separate
messages, I will upload photos as evidence.
1) The length is about 70cm (without the 1-prong connectors, with these connectors
would be about 76cm) so it is really 765c96.
On the other hand, this wire had the length 76cm. So TLG had included the same
wire with the same length as the purpose of the two was to connect the transformer
to conducting rails.
2) This wire together with tracks are the most likely parts to be removed or
intermingled with other parts or lots. However, we have seen them in MISB or
new condition sets from various years confirming that this part was not an extra
for certain releases.
3) This is the most important question and the answer would give the best support
to add this part to the inventory of these three sets.
In 70s, TLG released 12v trains but with blue tracks. They were released in some
European countires and not all. Their production stopped in 1980 and so, the
gray era began. For blue era, the transformers were

Part No: 740 Name: Electric, Train 12V Transformer for 220V - Type 1
*
740 Electric, Train 12V Transformer for 220V - Type 1
Parts: Electric, Train
[p=741-1]
[p=742-1]
They did not come with any wire. Instead, they released supplemental sets
[p= 706-1]
or
[p= 706-2]
which came with

Part No: 2913c01 Name: Electric, Train Track Contact Base with Wire (97cm) with Blue Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Rounded Wide Long with Hollow Pins (2913 / bb0093ac01)
*
2913c01 (Inv) Electric, Train Track Contact Base with Wire (97cm) with Blue Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Rounded Wide Long with Hollow Pins (2913 / bb0093ac01)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
or

Part No: 2913c02 Name: Electric, Train Track Contact Base with Wire (97 cm) and Connector with Cap
*
2913c02 (Inv) Electric, Train Track Contact Base with Wire (97 cm) and Connector with Cap
Parts: Electric, Train
First these parts were blue and not nice with gray tracks. Second, these supplemental
sets were not released anymore since 1980. So TLG added the wire 765c96 to owners
of 12v blue era in order that they could still be able to run the sets 7730,
7740 and 7725 with their older blue transformer (740, 741 or 742). In these way,
they would not need to buy a new transformer.
I have also seen some lots on Ebay in which the transformer is not Lego, probably
came from other train toys. So the contact holes of transformers 740, 741, 742
or 7864 is compatible with other transformers. See photos attached

Since tracks and conducting rails are listed as regular (despiste the fact that

as regular for the same reason.

See photos attached from various lots including trains or sets from blue era
and gray era.

I will add some of my sources to next responses to this thread.

1)The first set (see photos 1-4) is MISB currently on sale on bricklink and another
website.
- the languages on the right side of the box are UK/I/F so this set is from 1981-82.
(since 1983, the languages changed a little bit and were UK/F/NL together with
new trains 7727 and 7755)
- the sleepers don't have cable grooves so were made between 1981-82.
On the photo 4, we can see the cable with 1-prong connectors. It is wrapped so
its length are about 74cm and is 765c96.

2) The photos 5-7 come from a set in very good condition. It comes with the catalog
from 1981. On photos 5 and 6, on the right bottom corner, we can see a 1-prong
connector which should be 765c96.

3) The photos 8 comes from a lot that I bought from France. The set was in excellent
condition. The bags were still in the box. We can see the cable 765c96 connected
to a no-Lego transformer. This shows that TLG didn't want to force the buyers
of 12v trains 7725, 7730 and 7740 to buy the transformer set 7864 so they included
this cable. (I have seen similar lots many times but didn't save them)

* Add 1 Part 765c96 Light Gray Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with four 1-prong connectors, 96 Studs Long

It has been some time that we noticed the part

Part No: 765c96  Name: Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared (x466c96 / 765c01)

*
7864 Electric, Train 12V Transformer for 220V - Type 3

This transformer came with the same wire

Part No: 765c96  Name: Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared (x466c96 / 765c01)

Since tracks and conducting rails are listed as regular (despiste the fact that
they are not included in the instructions), I think this wire should be listed
as regular for the same reason.

See photos attached from various lots including trains or sets from blue era
and gray era.

I will add some of my sources to next responses to this thread.

Fixed some Macros for you.

there; motor is dated 13 82.
