I just had an enquiry from somebody in Cyprus asking me why I would not ship
to him, though Cyprus is in the EU and I apply shipping rates for ALL EU countries.
Why was Cyprus not included in my list ? Cyprus it seems is included in the Middle
East region for Bricklink and hence I did not include Cyprus. This needs to be
corrected immediately.
As for the case of the rest of the island, I cannot comment wheter the UN allows
or not to ship LEGO.

Am I correct to put that forward ?

Thank you all

Yes.
Even if the status of the North of the island might be problematic (though the
state is only recognised by one country (Turkey)), there’re absolutely no controversies
on the fact the Republic of Cyprus is in EU.

Though, I’m not sure a forum post (with “politics” in the title) will help.
Did you file a bug report / contact Help Desk?

It did indeed grab my attention, but as long as conversation does not delve into
the actual politics of the situation there is no reason to remove it. I have
moved the thread to suggestions, although contacting the help desk get a quicker
resolution.

Cheers

Yes, that’s what I meant: it grabs the attention of moderators, not of help desk
or other, less adventurous, forumers

They are geographical regions rather than political regions, so BL is correct
in that Cyprus is in the Middle East. That is how the UN define it.

Is the buyer having difficulty placing an order with you? I see that Cyprus
is in your list of ship-to countries (maybe you just recently added Cyprus manually?).
If you want to sell to someone who is not from one of your ship-to countries
you can also add a bypass password to get around the problem.

I made the necessary changes to allow this to happen immediately when asked so
that is why it is allowed now.

To respond to others about geography, Bricklink should not assess geographically,
Cyprus depends on the EU and identical shipping rates that consequently makes
it impossible for the instant checkout to work properly.

Not all postal services determine costs to Cyprus based on membership of the
EU or not. However, whether or not to consider Cyprus as being in Europe depends
on who you consider to be the authority on such things. Geographically it's
on the small Anatolian tectonic plate rather than the Eurasian plate, which could
in theory place it in Europe, Africa or Asia depending on your point of view.

The 'border' between Europe and Asia is decided by historical convention
rather than an official demarcation, and as such may be marked differently by
different authorities. For us Brits, Cyprus has long been placed in Europe, likely
because it was under British control as early as the 1870s. Every atlas I own
shows Cyprus as being part of Europe.

The Council of Europe (not the EU) believes that countries accepted as being
geographically in Eurasia could also therefore be said to be European. Consequently,
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia, Russia and Turkey are all members, and
Kazakhstan could apply to be a member. Eurasia technically goes all the way to
the Pacific which, given the CoE's stance, could in theory see China, Mongolia
and many others considered as potential Council of Europe members.

Obviously it depends what you're talking about I suppose - geography or geopolitics
- but to us Brits (or at least this is how I was educated), Cyprus qualifies
on both counts

Geographically Cyprus IS in Asia, so BL is completely right here.
Info for everybody: if you wish to ship to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,
you should write name, street address, city/area and then Mersin 10, Turkey.
Here is the sample address:
John Doe
53 Tavuk Sokak, #635
Lefkosa, Mersin 10, Turkey
The letter will be sent to Turkey (and charged accordingly by your country's
postal service) and then redirected by Turkish Postal Service to Northern Cyprus
(for free).
Don't know if this will work when shipping from Greece - there is a chance
such shipments may be blocked for political reasons.

For a UK seller, sending to Greenland is classed as the same cost as sending
to France so should Greenland be moved into Europe too? Plus it has cultural
and political links with European countries. But Geographically it is in Northern
America.

Cyprus is part of Europe. As a Greek Cypriot, I can tell you the people identify
as European.
