| As it is now the built in message system is near useless to keep customer contacts
with.
And messages I send to customers through my regular mail client wont show up
on the order, witch is a downside.
So what if all users got a pop3 enabled mail-box with "username@bricklink.com"?
Me as a seller could simply add the bricklink messaging to my mail-client, and
any communication with the buyer through that channel would show on the order.
What do the rest of you think?

It would be great but not very practical from BL's point of view. They'd
essentially be opening themselves up as a free email provider for anyone who
registers a BL account, which carries inherent dangers, not to mention the legal
obligations depending on where they host the servers.

The mailing system is good as it is now, because every "custom- related" mail
shows up in the respective order and can be "tracked" in that way. So that's
fine.
When you use the regular mails it is definitely your own problem. Why do you
think that the internal mailing system is "near useless"? Explanation, please...

| As a seller I keep many customer contacts at any time. The built in messaging
system is in my opinion to hard to work with compared to how im set up at gmail.
So there is a trade-of to using either of the systems.
As a buyer I guess it works just fine. But as a, even as I am, small seller it
is simply to hard to get a good overlook and be efficient working with it.

No disrespect meant, but are you out of your flippin mind ?
BL has enough issues needing resolution, without having to (properly) filter
out the tons of spam that would arrive. There are very good email providers already
in place. I cannot fathom why we need BL to become another email provider.

| Well, maybe it's not a technically feasible idea at all. I wouldn't know.
Maybe an update to the bricklink messaging system would suffice just fine. I
just wanted to share, what I find to be a point about Bricklink.com I think need
some updating. =)

The only thing that comes to mind, would be for BL to farm it out to someone
who already has expertise in running large scale email systems. But that raises
the question of, what happens when a member changes their member name ? The existing
built in system keeps track of all this, because it is using the (mostly hidden)
member number. Member numbers remain static unless two member accounts are merged
