| Please make changes to the following inventory:
* Change 1 Part Yellow {3626bp01 Minifig, Head Standard Grin Pattern - Blocked Open Stud to 3626ap01 Minifig, Head Standard Grin Pattern - Solid Stud}
Comments from Submitter:
in the 6067-1 set (Guarded Inn) all the minifigs have solid stud heads, as it was released in 1986 - I have one of this sets.
May be that in the 2001 release of the set (10000-1) the minifigs had the blocked open stud heads, but I am not sure.

Hi
correct, the from 1986 set has the solid stud head and the from 2001 set the
blocked open stud head.
But don't know what the rule is at this moment that this request will be
ok or not.

Or maybe we should add the two head types in these minifig inventories as alternate
items? I don't know, the thing is that the minifig with the blocked open
stud is not quite right if you are putting together the 1986 set...

Have you read the notes on the inventory?

Yes I have, but as I said this is not quite right. The original minifigure has
the solid stud head, and the newest ones had the blocked open stud

The notes say that early copies have the solid stud head, so it's the same
as you said, just differently worded.

Let's put it this way. I find on Bricklink a "complete" set 6067. I buy it.
And then it happens that all the minifigs have blocked open stud heads. But anyway,
according to Bricklink inventary as it is now (with three out of four minifigs
having the blocked open stud heads), the set is correct.
And no, it is not: The 6067 set has solid stud heads, the 100000 set has blocked
open ones.
What do we do?

Ask the seller which version the head is.
They won't have two different versions of the same minifigure with different
head studs in the catalogue. There are many instances where sets have come with
both blocked open and recessed studs and only one is catalogued.
You are correct that you might get the wrong head with a complete set. But then
if you reverse it, buyers of 10000-1 would get the wrong heads.

As far as I know, minifigs are inventoried with the first head they are 'found'
with.
This means that if someone finds it with a 'b' type head first, then
the fig get's inventoried with that head (alltough it is possible many more
figs are found with the 'c'type head). Occasionaly figs are found with
a 'c' type, and later on people find the 'b' type of heads, but
the figs remain with 'c' type, as that's how they are first found
with...
Following that logic, the 'a' type was 'before' the 'b'
type, so the first one found, is 'a' type, the 'b' type for this
particular fig came much much later. It has only been recently BL inventory admins
started to approve changes from 'b' to 'a' type 'still whished
there would be the 'alternate' head option), so from a logic point of
view the request should be 'approved' by the IA's and the cadmins
should change the note towards Y2K re-issues would carry a 'blocked open
stud', as it would better fit the timeline and current 'policy' on
the heads.

With B and C types, you are correct that whatever type is found by a submitter
is confirmed and added to the inventory. If later another type is found, a note
is added. Every once in a while a particular type is determined to be in error,
so an actual change is made.
Regarding the A and B types, it is a more synthetic situation, due to 2 factors:
1) the BL inventory system was started long after the A head was discontinued,
and 2) for a long time (until about a year ago) no A heads were allowed. So in
a way, the site is now "reliving" the transition from A to B, but in reverse
because we are looking backwards.
Because I was very conservative with the timeline, almost all "corrections" at
this point will be notes added to B inventories saying that the A head is also
found. But there is also a chance that Lego releases a new figure that is identical
to an old figure where the head type has already been changed. In that case,
it is likely that the inventory would be changed BACK to the B type and a note
placed concerning the A type.
But I haven't seen that happen yet, and my hope is that before we reach that
bridge that the catalog will have opened up to dedicated entries for the older
A type figures. I really do think it is best for all parties to keep the old
and the new separate. Maybe not for other types of assemblies, but minifigs are
somewhat in their own category.
