Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 3274 Name: Bob and Muck Repair the Barn
*
3274-1 (Inv) Bob and Muck Repair the Barn
24 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2001
Sets: DUPLO: Bob The Builder

* Delete 1 Part dmuckc01 Red Duplo Bulldozer 'Muck' Complete Assembly (Counterpart)

Comments from Submitter:
-The 2001 version of Muck differs from that of the later version (see notes in Muck's entry) and is not correct for this set.

I wonder why that's even in the catalog. Per the Help page on catalog entries:

Large part assemblies. - Large assemblies of parts that can be built into figures, vehicles, or other structures often comprise a substantial portion of a set and should not be added to the catalog.

For that particular set Muck is almost a third of the parts in the set.

True. I think these predate that rule and are grandfathered. I have also asked
that "Late Version" be added to that Muck's name.

The faces were different in the 2001 versions for 3 of the 4 Bob vehicles, as
well. One day, I may get around to adding those to the catalog, assuming I have
any left. They are moving pretty well for me this year.

We can't just change the description when there are sellers with those parts
who may end up having the wrong thing listed. Right now, the catalog does not
distinguish them. If you were to submit submit the different Muck assembly and
the different patterned bulldozer front, we could consider it, but we also need
to weigh whether it is worth it to make these changes when people have been buying
and selling these with the entries as is for almost 15 years without problems.

2 recent problems for me, hence the removal requests from older sets. I'm
not too worried on the name change front for the part, as I'm just not going
to set myself up for that again.

So the rationale is

Changing names without notifying sellers may cause confusion: Bad. Even though
it would require notifying....3 sellers.

Changing inventory of the item (by adding the second plate) without notifying
sellers and having them get complaints that the second plate (that is not even
supposed to be there) is missing: Acceptable.

-The 2001 version of Muck differs from that of the later version (see notes in Muck's entry) and is not correct for this set.

The strange thing about this particular inventory is that the number of 2 x 4
red plates was increased from 1 to 2 at one point, leading me to believe that
later production runs of these three early sets may have contained the additional
part. Official Lego data also shows 2 for this set.

If that is true, then the counterpart would be correct, but we'd need to
make changes to reflect the alternate design. This would be the first Duplo set
I'm aware of that had a design upgrade during production. Anyone know more
about this?

It was increased in the BL inventory in 2010 , I think. TLG added the second
plate in the 2005 and later sets. I don't think there is any reason to believe
there was a mid 2001 change.

In fact, up until BL added the second plate in 2010 the existing Muck would have
to have been deleted from the 2005 and later sets, which it really never should
have been added to in the first place as it should have been a new Muck with
a second plate and a new face. Except...the image for Muck is from the 2005 redesign
so he/she (he in UK/she in USA) was probably added after the fact, without noticing
the difference.

I had all this fully explained on Muck's notes in 2009, but whoever approved
the change in 2010 did not see/amend the note, leading to the new issue.

It was increased in the BL inventory in 2010 , I think.

Yes, by a member who is still active.

  TLG added the second
plate in the 2005 and later sets. I don't think there is any reason to believe
there was a mid 2001 change.

Here is the evidence for a change in Muck's design before 2005:

1. The set was sold continuously from 2001 to 2004. If the set did indeed have
structural problems, why would Lego wait 4 years to fix it? Like I mentioned,
this would be a first for Duplo, but this happens to regular sets all the time.
Changes can be made as soon as the next production run hits.

2. There are 2 sets of instructions for set 3274 (see images below). In fact,
the second version of instructions comes with a parts list at the back.

3. In addition to our BL inventory records, Peeron also shows 2 red plates with
an MISB source, uploaded Jan 2004.

4. As mentioned before, official Lego data shows 2 red plates for this set.

In fact, up until BL added the second plate in 2010 the existing Muck would have
to have been deleted from the 2005 and later sets, which it really never should
have been added to in the first place as it should have been a new Muck with

I had all this fully explained on Muck's notes in 2009, but whoever approved
the change in 2010 did not see/amend the note, leading to the new issue.

I have also looked at the data for set 3294, and it seems the situation is the
same there:

Set No: 3294 Name: Muck's Recycling Set
*
3294-1 (Inv) Muck's Recycling Set
20 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2005
Sets: DUPLO: Bob The Builder

So by all accounts the change was made much earlier than 2005, and all 3 early
sets had both versions of Muck. That being the case, the BL Muck assembly is
correct for every inventory it is currently in.

In fact, up until BL added the second plate in 2010 the existing Muck would have
to have been deleted from the 2005 and later sets, which it really never should
have been added to in the first place as it should have been a new Muck with
a second plate and a new face.

I have also looked at the data for set 3294, and it seems the situation is the
same there:

Set No: 3294 Name: Muck's Recycling Set
*
3294-1 (Inv) Muck's Recycling Set
20 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2005
Sets: DUPLO: Bob The Builder

Woops, disregard this last paragraph - I got the set numbers confused.

I have been looking at catalogs as well, and I believe I see the extra plate
in a catalog from the summer of 2002:

Catalog No: c02nl2 Name: 2002 Large Dutch August - December (419.2945-NL)
*
c02nl2 2002 Large Dutch August - December (419.2945-NL)
Catalogs: 2002

Interesting. Well that makes things more complicated.

Yes, indeed. Resolved for the one set, but the other two I'm still gleaning
info on. Here are a couple of images of Muck from set 9119, official and unofficial.
Both show him being built without the extra 2 x 4 plate. Also, Lego data only
shows one plate. So I'm thinking this set did not change.

It's a tougher call. Even if they did add it, I could see them taking a pass
on redoing their promo pics for it.

Seeing as we have found the new version of Muck in this set, we will need to
reject this request. The other 2 requests will remain pending until it is decided
what to do in this situation.
