C'mon, I just spent over three hours collecting and editing instructions
photos which you don't have. And now I can't submit all of them to the
catalog?

Please allow more than 50 photos a day.

EDITED: I attached a screenshot of the error message, but I can't even post
photos to the forum now. Wow. Seriously, do something about this. Please.

Frustrating, isn't it? Even catmins are bound to this limit.
Restarting the router and getting a new IP sometimes help as workaround but isn't
really a solution.

Frustrating indeed. I think that may be the first time I've ever posted
a message in the BrickLink forum whilst I was angry. I guess once in thirteen
years ain't too bad.

I thought I read a while back in a purged message that the limit had been removed.
Anyway, it's been some time since I've uploaded that many images at
a time and I forgot about the limit until it happened. I only had 70 images
(35 small and 35 large).

I'm sure there's a reason for the limit, but I'm sure I don't
know what it is. At the least they could make exceptions for catalog administrators
and frequent contributors who they know aren't going to abuse the image upload
system.

I had the same problem not too long ago, when I was trying to update lots of
set images with better images. I know, you cannot even post an image in the forum!

I've seen this come up before with a few of the major contributors, and I
agree - people shouldn't be discouraged from submitting things, especially
images.

If indeed the site has to place a daily limit on submitted images for technical
reasons, what should the limit be - 100, 250, 500?

OTOH what's the problem in submitting them in daily 50s batches?
Does someone really think we'll go through 100, 250 or 500 images per day?
Also keep in mind that replacement or missing images for existing items clutter
the image lists for new items and slow down the approval process on these items.

I personally enter all submissions in small quantities. I become overstimulated
when I try to do too much Lego work at once. And based on my experience, this
is also what I recommend to other submitters when the issue comes up.

However, some people apparently function differently. Whether it's their
schedule that dictates their submitting habits (a whole day off their regular
job), or simply that strong desire to get up to one's ears in Lego related
activity, some people function more efficiently with intense periods of submitting.
If they don't take advantage of an opportunity when their availability or
motivation is high, they may miss the opportunity.

I think in general there could be more done to make things easier for people
to contribute, and a larger inbox for images would be one of them. Perhaps you
could ask the dev team to work on more powerful filtering options for pending
items. Or perhaps the system could place images over the 50-per-day quota into
some sort of holding file, to be released into the pending queue incrementally.

I see your point, but I was only trying to upload 35 images. Splitting them
into large and small caused the total to bump to 70 and trigger the "BrickLink
Doesn't Want Any More of your Photos" error.

Perhaps the system could be expanded to 50 small and 50 large images. This would
keep the spirit of the limit intact while recognizing that the actual limit is
25 images a day when both large and small images of the same item are factored
in.

When I am working on something that needs many new images, I'd like to get
it over with as soon as possible. My time is a limited resource, so I try to
streamline the process. Gather the required information, take a lot of photo's,
edit them, submit them. Submitting them all at once is a task I am willing to
do on occasion. Submitting them several days in a row becomes a less pleasant
chore.

After I have submitted them, I do not demand that you check and approve them
all instantly. Your time is a valuable limited resource also

Excellent post! I completely agree.

I have reported the image ban as a technical issue to the Help Desk. Perhaps
that will solve the problem and perhaps not.

And define 'serious post'...
What is 'serious' for one *may* be totally 'irrelevant' for others,
and vice versa

I could use one of these kits myself every now and then, and by the sounds of

I myself do not like this limit as I am a major contributor of images, and I
understand your frustration when you hit the limit for the first time or after
some time of not hitting it. However, over time I have learned to use this daily
limit to ensure that I make time to do other things with my life than just sit
in front of the computer updating images all day! Not to mention that it gives
the catmins a breather, also. Sometimes it just takes a little more patience
to get a catalog job done. Hang in there!

Cheers,
Randy

It is probably not in a cookie. TheRobo mentioned he could sometimes work around
the issue by forcing his Internet connection to acquire a new IP. Assuming this
is the only change he made, he would still have the same cookies. This looks
like BL is tracking these submissions by IP.

A joke only works when you consider the appropriate time, place and people.
When those aren't in place it often becomes tactless. Your messages often
fall into the latter.

This are the ingrediants for a nice cookie.

define appropriate time.
define appropriate place.
define appropriate people.

Why do you or anyone else feel the need to 'on behalf of whoomever' define
what is 'appropriate' in any circumstance when a 'poster' (regardless
who/when/why and how) posts a message in a certain thread that he/she feels 'fun'
to do OR find for himself/herself a 'serious' contribution (that's
what makes the human kind unique).
If a message posted on the forum is to be found 'inappropriate', then
the mods will take care of it, period.
Any other message remains 'appropriate' afaik, whether it is relevant
to the thread or not, funny or not, that it is for each to decide for him/herself.
If you don't like what Steekstra writes (or anyone else for that matter)
then just 'skip' the posts of that person, but do not try to 'define'
appropriate, as others *might* have another opinion. I've seen hundreds of
threads 'derive' from their original content, there is hardly any 'harm'
with such

Six months later and I still hate the image restrictions. I have 70 items pending
approval. I have set and original box images ready to upload for all the sets.
Counting large and small images, that's 280 images I could contribute right
now.

But no, BrickLink doesn't want that. I can only upload 50 per day. That
means I must take time out every day for the next five days to upload images
before I can get back to the Educational/Dacta project.

This makes no sense at all. Just let me add these images now so that
I can delete them from my computer and move on.

Maybe they want you to create multiple accounts to get around it.

It does seem strange. I understand why they have a limit, but maybe they need
to have a "badge" to allow super-contributors (once they have passed 100 or 500
or 1000 or whatever number of contributions) to have no restrictions.

If BrickLink staff weren't kind enough to let us contribute to the catalog,
then they'd get the joy of doing all the work themselves.

Maybe I should just shut up about it and be grateful that they allow people to
contribute at all.

I am banned from submitting any images to the BrickLink catalog for the remainder
of the day.

I still find it unreasonable that frequent image contributors are denied the
ability to contribute at higher daily volumes. The catalog admins have stated
they don't have the time to approve more images, yet they insist that there
are enough catalog administrators.

I find this logic puzzling when there are over 5,000 large images and over 5,000
small images missing from existing catalog entries, not to mention the numerous
existing low-quality images, or the many existing LEGO items yet to be added
to the catalog.

I agree with the catalog administrators on many things, but this is one issue
about which we disagree. Penalizing BrickLink catalog contributors doesn't
seem (to me, at least) like the most effective strategy for continued contributions.
