hello Ogdy,

In step one there is no part that even looks like it. I think you mean step 2
and there you have to use

Part No: 4273a Name: Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Toggle Joint Toothed - Without Slots
*
4273a Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Toggle Joint Toothed - Without Slots
Parts: Technic, Connector
and

Part No: 4274 Name: Technic, Pin 1/2 without Friction Ridges
*
4274 Technic, Pin 1/2 without Friction Ridges
Parts: Technic, Pin
see a scan of my instructions.
At ten you are correct you have to use a
[p=9244]

Maybe you can also post a scan of your instructions, maybe they have different
instructions.

Hello Mr.Rofl,

you're right, it seems there are different instructions.
The cover image shows the version from your instruction, but mine uses
[p=9244]
in step one.

My instruction is number 120216 copyrighted 1981. Don't know if that helps...

Sorry about the b/w scans, forgot to change scanner settings.

It seems you may need to use a different length axle as well. Does the 8 still
fit?

Hello Russell,

yes it still fits, at the front there is a grater overlap as shown in the instructions
but all works fine.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This is one of the great side benefits
of having an active set inventory system on BL.

I had this set as a child (original instructions without the universal joint)
and the drive axle would regularly come apart. I never liked that about this
set, and now I see that TLG also recognized the problem and tried to fix it.

My Instructions says the same number and also from 1981.

Now comes the fun part. I have 3 of set 8859 and one of the instructions is in
fact the one you post here. I own them for many many years and never noticed
it.

Both do exist and there for the 9244 should be as an alternate and the other
parts as well.

Greetings.

Hi

yes, both instruction numbers are the same but have a language difference.
