Caveat: I understand the value of warning the community about systemic abuses.

Suggestion: When we notice a listing that seems wrong -- we should try to contact
the seller first before bringing the listing in question to the public forum.
Firstly I think it will resolve the issue quicker, secondly I believe that the
listing seller will appreciate it more.

Also, use the Problem with Item Listed for Sale page

http://www.bricklink.com/problemInventory.asp

Give the Admin team a chance as well.

After 48 hrs or so -- if no response has been received and the offending listing
has not been removed -- then bring it to the forum for pitchforking/torching

What'cha think?

Not good, another suggestion, we get 2 checkboxes for sets, one for included
box and another for included instructions...

In case that user does not flag one of them the status goes automatically to
COMPLETE...

Mike.

In some cases the person is asking a question, they themselves (the poster) is
not certain if something is allowed or not.

It is not even necessarily starting out as pitchforking, but just a question,
that evolves into pitchforking.

I'll have you know this fine community was partially built on pitchforking (my
I do miss the official "Friday Night Forum Fight's"-- too bad they just occur
all the time now).

I for one am a supporter of pitchforking, but only towards those that openly
deserve it based on past history/ open scamming intentions/ or blatant stupidity.

I'm actually more in favor of public notice of listing issues, (and not just
to warn other users about systemic abuses) as well as any other practice that
violates TOS and community etiquette. I don't think we have to flame non-repeat
violations, but publicly airing them has benefits. Consider that I may be a
new seller who reads the forum for indications of how to be successful. Reading
posts exposing listing errors or other undesirable behaviors will help me avoid
the same errors (and help me know how not to p*ss off potential clients).

I almost completely agree:

" If I have a set that is complete with all the polybags sealed, Can I list it
as New-Sealed"

would achieve the same result as posting a link to a seller's listing. If the
answer is no -- then a PM linking the thread would work nicely.

If however a seller is warned, and the change is not made -- then use the Problem
page, and perhaps post to the forum.

In other words, I'm not against public display of violations -- I just don't
think they should be the first step.

Last week I posted a thread about a seller on eBay that I thought was misleading
-- however that was after a few attempts to contact the seller and an email to
eBay. I have also repeatedly tried to shine light on BrickTrainShop, because
they are a flagrant abuser IMHO.
