When you get an order and ship it out, do you print out their order and put it
in the package, and if so do you use color or black and white. Or do you not
even put one at all? Currently, I print out one sided black and white and was
told by my significant other that looks bad and cheap. Thoughts?

Don't, save paper, save ink, save fuel for the extra shipping grams.
Plus some people offer the order, putting an invoice isn't helping.
Nowadays, many prefer the invoice received by e-mail, or a PDF sent or to download...

So many times I get a parcel where there's the person who shipped - not the
shop and sometimes not the seller, up to not even the shipper postal address
or Country, and nothing to relate to the 10 or 20 orders you placed

So many times I get a parcel where there's the person who shipped - not the
shop and sometimes not the seller, up to not even the shipper postal address
or Country, and nothing to relate to the 10 or 20 orders you placed


Putting the tracking number in the tracking number field is sufficient for me,
but not all sellers do that.

As a buyer I don't need or want the paperwork - I check my order online.
I often have several orders come at a time and if none of them include the paperwork
or write the order number on the packaging, it takes me a lot longer to work
out which order is which.

Obviously if you use the paperwork to check the parts (many sellers tick it to
let them (and me) know that it was included and checked, then include it by all
means, but otherwise don't waste your paper, ink or electricity.

BTW if you simply have to print it, then B&W is fine.

I once was browsing and came across a seller who said in his terms that he would
provide a color order with checks for each item saying they were in the box if
the order was over 1000 pieces. I assume he did this so people would feel they
were getting quality handiwork for a lot of money.
(Obviously this makes no sense for massive stores, but for smaller stores I thought
this is a nice touch)

I've seen both. It doesn't matter. It's a nice touch if the order
is large, but in general, you're in a minority and it's not necessary.

Some take a sharpie and hand write it on the inside the carton - everything or

I tend to avoid sellers that print out orders, especially if it increases postage
costs.

I have never printed it out to include in orders and haven't had any problems.
I pull orders with an iPad so I have no other need for them so its a waste of
materials and waste of money. when i receive it in orders I put it in recycle
and for the few buyers who want it printed off they can print it off when they
order

I keep it simple and use small Avery labels (same I use for barcode scanner).
Like most have stated all you need is the order number attached.

We send along the checklist used to process the order. Both order item and amount
are checked off with a bright highlighter. Printed in black (not color) at 80%
size to save on printer ink and paper costs, which is further trimmed of unprinted
surface before neatly folding no more than once, so that it's easy for the
order recipient to unfold and view.

There are other efforts we make that go to presentation. It's important,
presentation. Just how we and some other vendors I know and respect, have done
it. That said, as a buyer I don't expect nor really care that much, as long
as the order is properly packaged.

It's for these buyers that presentation might be important, but also
it might not. When I buy it is primarily for myself, and I couldn't care
if the seller has included their picking list. However, if they've charged
me more because of the weight or bulk of the paper being sent, I probably won't
buy from them again. Years ago, back when manual invoicing was the norm, I had
to pay more in shipping after someone weighed a parcel and it was just over a
threshold weight because of all the paper. I wasn't very happy then. The
order itself was fine but their lack of common sense was enough to make me least
favourite them.

Never had any complaints is a way of knowing what you are doing is fine. For
CMF I rebag them and don't include packets (and say this in the description).
I've never had any complaints about not sending the open packets, but then
I've never had any compliments either. Some people send them to me when I
buy them, but it doesn’t make me happy and so others doing it wouldn't change
my behaviour. When I did send the opened packets, I never had any compliments
about doing that, but did get one complaint.

Maybe I should have complained when I got sent loads of paperwork and had to
pay more in postage for the privilege. At least that way, the seller doing it
would know they displeased me as a customer. No complaints when you are doing
something is not really any more insightful than no complaints when you are not
doing it.

Yes sometimes, often, buyers are the sellers garbage collectors.

I received recently as packing material:

* empty toilet paper rolls,
* an empty handkerchief box,
* newspapers from everywhere,
* empty shoes box,
* empty eggs containers, and MANY weird up to disgusting things.

Sellers, put the minimum but clean brand new recycled / recyclable materials
in your packaging.

Buyers are NOT recycling what you should do yourself.

mhm the most random stuff gets included a recent order had half an egg carton
in it 😭😭. The only non brand new things I use for packing are shipping boxes,
packing paper/bubbles and cereal boxes (since the box just holds a bag so never
is dirty

Yes sometimes, often, buyers are the sellers garbage collectors.

This was actually the LEGO packets, that you are supposedly meant to include
to be complete!

  I received recently as packing material:

* empty toilet paper rolls,
* an empty handkerchief box,
* newspapers from everywhere,
* empty shoes box,
* empty eggs containers, and MANY weird up to disgusting things.



I was watching an ebay reseller a couple of weeks ago and they suggested egg
trays as a good filler. They said it was as they are relatively light but strong,
so a good way to fill space in a box that is too big.

I do, mostly because I use the check boxes to keep track of what I've pulled.
I'm sure if I had an iPad, I would just use that, but for now, I just have
a black and white printer.

I realize it's extra work, but I then double check on my PC for the correct
color and amount. I've caught mistakes that I've made pulling the parts
for color (which probably would be fixed if I had a color printed) and for part
count. Knock on wood, it's been a very long time since I've had a complaint
for missing something.

I'm sure most people don't care for the invoice, but I have gotten a
couple positive feedbacks thanking me for it.

I have my store capped at 75 lots (due to having to travel almost full time for
my job), but when I had unlimited lots, if the printed invoice pushed an order
over a weight threshold, I wouldn't bother.

Yes, in color, double sided. Still need to READ the color though as the color
pic is not always accurate.

I use it to pull the order, my checker uses it to check the order and pack it.

ALMOST eliminates mistakes, never had a complaint for including it.

I print out a black and white order invoice, double sided.

It isn't for the buyer, but so that I can double check the order and especially
the buyer's address.

This prevents me from criss crossing orders and sending to the wrong buyer.

Personally, as a buyer, I don't care either way. I use BrickStore for checking
orders, so it is easy to identify the order.

At the very least I would include a business card with the order number or print
it on the shipping label.

Oddly enough, the one thing I notice is tape and boxes.

When you see a seller that uses paper tape or thick packing tape, the items inside
will always be high quality.

Same with boxes. Would much rather prefer a huge bubble mailer over one of those
low ECT boxes that you can crumple with your hands.

As a buyer I am always comforted by the addition of the order in black and white
with obvious evidence of the seller have checked or marked each part in the order
with a tick. Without it I’m sometimes tempted to count everything, especially
on a large order.

I dislike getting extra paper with my order nor do I print or send any kind of
list. There are very good digital ways now to ensure a complete order. I don't
believe paper is the necessity it once was.

I just use the temporary checkboxes on the order detail page combined with a
JS script I have to ensure they're all checked. I've rarely had an issue.

I don't think it looks bad to include the printout of the order, but for
me personally I feel like it's a waste of paper and ink, especially if it's
a large order.

Similar for me except instead of the checkboxes I scroll after each lot so that
the lot at the top of the screen is always next and once I get it I scroll a
bit again until the next lot is at the very top of the screen since the checkboxes
can be a bit finicky to tap while pulling orders

What a bizarrely polarizing issue. This is fascinating.

For me, the preference to ship a printout is two fold; prior experiences with
vendors and my organization/workflow. I store everything by brick type in bins
(1x1 bricks, 1x2 bricks, etc.) and then have the individual colors in bags in
those bins. I'm small with only 4600 lots, so it's exceptionally rare
for two orders not to share several lots that pull from the same bin - five is
statistically impossible.

So in the winter months when I can get 2-5 orders a day, I put a printout of
each order in it's own bin and then work through them all simultaneously
by brick type. If a new order comes in, I just print it out, add another bin
to the table and keep plugging along. Even though my terms page says I ship
in a few days, as long as those orders are in by noon, I can get them all shipped
that day.

I've tried just using stacked browser windows but even on a 40 inch monitor
it can get clunky.

Despite being a rabid recycler, instead of tossing it in the bin, I just give
it to the buyer.

This is *exactly* how my store is organized and what I do as well. You probably
know this but you can set the default sort order by Category Name, Color Name,
etc. See attached photo.

A couple of additional benefits to including a printout:

If a buyer is missing a lot, I ask if it is checked off on the printout. If the
answer is no then I know instantly that I messed up.

If the shipping label is damaged, the printout inside the box also has the address.
Saved me a couple of times.

Some of would have to as we don’t even own a normal printer 😬. My parents have
one but odds are it’s out of ink so I couldn’t guarantee I could even print one
off

I don't know, I never print orders or invoices and neither provide printed
invoice.

If one of my shipments should ever fall off the truck and land in a ditch, within
a few years the only thing that would be left would be a pile of the bricks themselves.
I use biodegradable tape, bubble inserts and mailers; however I am switching
soon to a new product I found which is mailers made from ocean plastic.

I have a place nearby that takes all of the numbered bags from the sets, but
I started using them for packing instead of poly bags to reduce my poly bag footprint...
But now I'm considering finding a solution for that because I realize not
all buyers may live in a place that can recycle (or they don't care to) the
#2/4/7 bags. So all I'm doing is shipping the stuff to an out of state landfill.

Side note, I saw a youtube video yesterday unboxing the forthcoming Harry Potter:
The Arrival set and they had what looked like paper bags inside. If true this
makes my heart swell with joy

I print out the orders, Because the last thing I want to do when I come home
from work is staring at another screen all day.

I use to print black and white until I realized it cost the same to print in
color with HP ink program. So I print in color.

IMO, from someone who has ordered from you "hahaha" knowing that the
seller went the extra step to print out the order and check it and included it
with the order lets me know they at least check their orders or double check
before they mail it (i didn't find it looked bad or cheap if that helps).
i think if someone doesn't want it they should leave that in the comment
box when putting the order in. i don't know if my comment means much but
i figured i would put my 2 blocks in.
