| So I pretty recently bought the GWP Tahu and Takua set, and have been noticing
an alarming number of cracked parts. I put the set together, occasionally pose
it a little, but haven't done anything like repeatedly disassembling and
then reassembling the set. Most of the time the set is just standing on my little
shelf, not under any direct sunlight. Yet it seems like every time I pick the
build up, I find a new cracked piece. All three side-stud pieces in both takua's
and tahu's head are cracked. both the ingot pieces on Tahu's, cracked.
One of the arches making up takua's arm? Cracked. One of the half-pound tiles
that makes up takua's toes? Cracked.
And that's only what I've found. I have a suspicion that if I were to
take the set apart, I'd find even more cracked pieces.
So my question is, well, in the title.

| yes, recent sets seem to have parts that crack easier, whether it be torsos
or 1x2 bricks and everything in between

Reddish Brown is catastrophic here.

Just remembered Sabine made a creation out of the various bits of one of broken

I completely agree. I bought a Ninjago city Gardens set as soon as it was available
a couple of years ago, and most of the minifigures' arms cracked as soon
as I put weapons or anything else in their hands. Luckily, that was the last
time a set did that to me.

Yep, just look at the renders of this new set. As you can see the colour inconsistency
is crazy.

| I have been having problems with trans green 1x1 plates and tiles, and white
bricks. Super random, but I'll find one every now and then with a big crack.

Trans- 1x1 plates have always been an issue. I think all my old PC ones are cracked.

This doesn't really surprise me. My biggest passion is for Transformers,
and one thing I learned from that community is that translucent plastic can't
handle being under stress over a period of time, say as a peghole or ball socket.

| My latest purchase direct from lego has tan pieces that appear to be made out
of a new material? They are different but the same. I'm not sure how to explain
it. I figured this was going to happen at some point with new ingredients, different
factories etc etc. Tan is just not a color you notice differences in but I guess
it now will join reddish brown and pearl gold with shades varying. Curious to
hear if others have seen quality issues or changes to pieces in recent orders.

I build a fair number of Minecraft sets and have noticed problems with tan cracked
parts.
These are adult owned sets, they aren't cracking through play, they are cracking
just existing, unassembled

Yes. For over a decade.
The 80s and 90s were really the golden era of LEGO quality. The Samsonite bricks
of the early era warped terribly.
There are tradeoffs though, the variety of molds and colors have increased.

Agreed. I just don't find broken vintage parts. Even with heavy playwear.
The new still cracks just being in storage. It's mindblowing the difference

2x2 and 1x4 tiles have been horrific for me. The 2x2's have two distinct
colors and the 1x4's have white stress marks.

I think a lot of quality control issues happens during the pigmentation process.
In the 90s, lego used pre-colored abs pellets, now it's all clear plastic
that is dyed in-house by lego.
So the product of the 90s was superior, but it had too many limitations in terms
of colour selection and material cost.
Lego also has a much, much larger parts catalogue now, with a lot more small
parts and some of them really push the limit of the capabilities of the plastic.
I recently bought a 1997 set that had it's box torn open but all of it's
parts mostly sealed and had the opportunity to build a brand new, vintage set
and it reminded me of how good everything felt back then. I think clutch power
isn't as good as it used to be.

Clear plastic. That does sound like it would explain things. What I know from
transformers is that clear plastic tends to be harder and more brittle than opaque
plastic.
