I've just received a package with really minor damage and I didn't think
that would affect the Lego set itself. Unfortunately, when I opened a box (it
was just a Ready to Ship box, nothing else), one of the corner was smashed.
While contacting with the seller he admitted this was my mistake as I
took the parcel and therefore he refused to consider any kind of reimbursement.
I'm thinking about putting a negative feedback as I guess I should not be
blamed for the improper packaging, and the seller must admit his mistake on the
package and pack it better next time not to have any issues with future sales.
What I'm worried about is a negative about myself as a buyer..

WDYT?
If you are going to open and build it, then I'd ignore it, especially if
the price was reasonable. If you want to display the box then maybe ask to return
it.
If you leave negative feedback, then yes you will probably get one back. Does
that matter to you? It is unlikely to affect your buying. However, it might show
that you are willing to complain about relatively minor issues when you buy and
so buyers at your store might decide to do the same if they have a minor issue
when they buy from you.
If it was in a sealed ready to ship box, it should have been strong enough to
protect it under normal transportation, so this is probably down to courier damage
rather than the seller not selecting a strong enough box.
But probably I'm more keen to get a compassion from a seller rather than
the answer that this was my fault.
Interestingly, all the boxes I've received recently that were in Ready to
Ship only outer boxes were damaged to some extent. But this one was the most
damaged from all I've got.

Direct from LEGO, mine always come inside another box so I've never had an
issue. I've only received one bought from a private seller in just the ready
to ship box, and that was also perfect. I guess it is really down to the courier.
Even if the seller ships inside another bigger box at the buyers expense, there
is always the possibility that it will still be damaged.

If you're worried about receiving a negative then you probably shouldn't
leave one (even if I agree with you that the seller is wrong to blame the damage
on you).

I would still leave appropriate feedback to warn other buyers of this seller's
attitude and behavior. A negative as a buyer does not impact your praise percentage
as a seller.
