Hi,

The nullbrick is when Studio doesn’t find the 3D model for a part (or submodel).

It’s not supposed to happen just by releasing submodels.  It would be a bug.

Don’t save your model!
At least, don’t overwrite the previous version.  Save it under a new name.
Then quit Studio and restart it to see if the file is okay….

You can send a bug report (with your file) to bricklink@support.lego.com
Explain what you were doing when it happened.
Describe your system (version of Studio, are you on Windows, macOS, which version…).
Please, also join Studio’s log file¹.

¹ This file is called Prev_Player.log and it can be found:
on Windows: %localappdata%\Stud.io   (C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME}\AppData\Local\Stud.io\)
on macOS: ~/.local/share/Stud.io   (/Users/{YOUR USERNAME}/.local/share/Stud.io)
.local & AppData are hidden (Cmd + Shift + . (period) to see hidden files in
macOS Finder; on Windows, you can search for %localappdata% (with the percent
signs) to directly go to AppData\Local).
