I was curious to see the number of people registered on Bricklink by country,
and looking at the ranking from highest to lowest number of registered users,
I was surprised to see Vietnam in 7th position. I didn't know Vietnam was
a major LEGO nation. Looking at the registrations in detail, there are over 60,000
accounts with 0 transactions or feedback since 2024 and 2025. Is this normal,
or is there some kind of fraudulent attempt? Personally, I've been registered
on Bricklink since 2004, and no Vietnamese person has ever bought any pieces
from me. Does anyone have an explanation?

There was a period recently (last year) during which we saw an increase in the
number of fake accounts that existed solely to pollute the site

Indeed.  Look at these accounts and you’ll see they have “Me” pages… full of
gambling links.

And BrickLink does nothing about that.

But we can’t have personalized ID-pics and we are told to be careful not to put
anything personal in our private WLs because… reasons!

So true! I'm getting sad of it. TLG has clearly lost the connection to the
millions of buyers here on BL.

As I have stated before -- and mark my words -- I think the ultimate
interest of TLG is to kill BL. Give or take 2 years and Brickink will cease to
operate.

However, this is completely in line with current developments, where the most
powerful and the loudest voices can determine what happens and what doesn't.
The fact that this involves a Danish (=European) company is all the more troubling.

Maybe things aren't so simple.

Vietnam recently (last Summer) required marketplaces to collect their VAT, with
probably a tolerance delay of 6 months or such.

This means a specific development, accounting, and zillions of legal pages to
be checked by their tax advisors. This can't be made quick.

See how long we've to wait for a working at least as before Coupon page,
imagine new taxes LOL

So they're probably forced to stop sales from/to Vietnam.

I'm sure Vietnam will be back in 6 months or such.

Apart SPAM accounts, they've an important role in LEGO production for Asia
I guess:

Which means LEGO - if it wasn't before (which I doubt) - should be even more
notorious there.

* iirc and if I'm not mistaken this link not pointing to a product is permitted

Spam accounts.

At one stage there were 300-400 new accounts a day and nearly all of them had
created an about me page full of links to gambling websites. And posted spam
here in the forum.
