Ciao - the optimist boat? Wow, I had a few hours on it, that was really fun!

Hundreds of thousands of person have used it, and many now sail champions started
with it.
It's the Cessna of the boats

It shoudn't be very complicated to create, depending the size and level of
details.
And apart the sail itself, I'm not sure if you can find a LEGO sail which
would fit.

Maybe this one, could be fun, but a bit expensive, and maybe not the size you
expect:

Part No: sailbb16 Name: Cloth Sail 2 with Black Stripes, Skull and Crossbones Pattern
*
sailbb16 Cloth Sail 2 with Black Stripes, Skull and Crossbones Pattern
Parts: Cloth {White}

If you wish the sail to be LEGO, then it's complicated. The sail will determine
the scale of the model.

If not, then use Studio to make the shape of the boat using Slope Curved and
start from this to try to recreate its famous shape.

But the main problem is always a question of size, details, cost...
Good luck!

It would be a special present for a really young Optmist team (8 yrs old), so
I just would like a little model (maybe 20 cm?), not so detailed.. Could anybody
project it? I don’t know if I am allowed to ask for some offers.. but I would
be very interested. Unfortunately I can not use 3D programs.. Maybe I could try
using real pieces but I think it would take too much time! And I would not so
creative like children… Thank you for every help!

Hi,

Maybe try on Rebrickable?

I made a quick search, there’s one model there but… well… not very solid work
https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-50679/Jimboblimb/optimist/#details

Try asking on their forums to find a willing designer?

Okay, okay 🫡

Here’s 3 quick sketches, more or less minifig sized:
— first one (hoping they are in the correct order after posting 😅) is “City
compatible”
— second is too, but has the dagger board, but is more fragile,
— third one is bigger, more in scale with real ones but would seem too big in
a City setting.

Prices in parts would be around $7-$16 (if you find one seller for them all).

If you’re interested, tell me which one you prefer and I’ll finish the model
and post it with instructions in the Gallery.

“AI”s can make images, not 3D models.  They just make something that looks like
it could be built with LEGO bricks, from far away, but if you look a bit closer
you see errors in scale between the parts, parts that never existed, or even
impossible geometries.

Thank you SO MUCH!
If it’s possible, I’d prefer the bigger one, even thought it’s not perfect for
city settings. Children will appreciate real scale a lot.
I can go to Lego whop to buy pieces..
Ps- I noticed that your profile image is the same of my son favourite pin he
wear on jackets 😆 It was written the you would have helped him 👍

Ps- if easier, the sail can be made in paper if including picco, albero, and
boma (see photo attached)

You should be able to do both: the brick-built sail or a plastic/paper sail

I just need to test-build it tonight….

Here you are:

https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/design.page?idModel=777141 (Studio file,
and parts list… when it’ll be approved)

https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-247309/SylvainLS/optimist/#details (PDF, Studio
file, and parts list)

It should be easy to change the colours, the parts are rather common.

I learnt to sail in an Oppie at the age of ten. That was one of the old wooden
boats, and if remember correctly the sail number was 86, so pretty old even then
in 1970. Already I was a little too tall and tended to semi lie in the boat with
my feet over the gunwale. Fortunately I soon progressed to a Mirror, which gave
me a more comfortable sail.

my son instead is a little short and very thin so I guess he will able to sail
on it for a long time 😄
