I submitted an order quote to a seller in Canada for about $375. He replied
that there is a 35% tariff rate that he needs to add to the order.
I tried my best to research that - and the 35% tariff only applies to 5-10% of
goods from Canada. Since Lego is not manufactured there, it should be duty free.
This bares out from experience as I just received a Lego package from Canada
a few days ago, and there were no tariffs applied.
I give the seller the benefit of the doubt that he may not know the details -
but it kind of seems like he is trying to tack on an extra charge for no reason.
Unless I am mistaken and someone can clear it up...

The seller can only ship it tariff free if the apply and get accepted for Cusma
on their inventory. It can be quite the lengthy process and involves complex
paper work. Some stores have gone thru the process and can ship tariff free,
and others have not, so have to ship with tariffs.
And since Cusma may be “reworked” next year, it might be best to wait until the
dust settles before more try to sort it out, also some may be holding out with
hopeful thinking about the tariffs being over turned with a possible Supreme
Court decision and are choosing not to worry about any of it right now

That is helpful to know. That's a ridiculous amount to pay though.

Indeed, and what makes it worse is it seems to vary everywhere you go. Some charge
only like 10%-15%, I had to charge around 27% for a while and I’ve seen a good
few around 30%-35%
Hopefully the tariff disappear, the odds aren’t complete 0 with a potential court
ruling, but we will have to see

Your seller is not mistaken. Recently the U.S. administration made it a rule
that all mail of merchandise to the U.S. now carries a tariff charge. The seller
must pay this cost up front, in order to mail it. Which means he needs to add
that cost to your charge.
