Hello all, please can I have some assistance with identifying some parts of lego
that my son would like me to purchase from the lego pickabrick site ( is there
a better alternative??).

Its driving me a bit nuts considering I have played with lego since I was his
age (8). What really drives me nuts is literally what lego call all these bits
!!!!!

any help would be most welcome

The better alternative to Pick-a-Brick is Bricklink, the very site you are on
now.

Bricklink is a sales platform where hundreds of thousands of small and large
business sell LEGO, both sets and parts, by means of a single worldwide catalog.

The catalog links in the other reply will bring you to the part detail pages
where you can see price information, availability and more. Add the parts to
a wanted list with the heart icon and you can buy them all here on this platform.
