Hello everyone,

I sold the original box for set 7782 and the buyer is now dissatisfied because
my description is allegedly incorrect. I used the following original image:

I provided the following description of the condition:

(Original Box) for Set 7782 The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault in good
used condition 8/10 with a few marks / small damages. See original picture and
ask for more pictures please!

The buyer sent me the following message:

"Hi Robert,

I can confirm that I have received the box in the post.

However, I am unsatisfied with the condition. It is not 8/10 as stated on the
listing.

There are several significant tears, dents and scratches. Several are on the
front of the box. 10/10 being a perfect, shelf-condition box, I would rate this
5/10.

Accordingly, I am disappointed. I would prefer to leave you positive feedback
and resolve the matter between ourselves.

Please let me know what you think, and what can be done about this.

Regards"

To be honest, I don't understand this problem. The box has an original picture,
a good description, and there was the option to get more pictures, but the buyer
didn't take advantage of that. Since I want to avoid such disagreements in
the future, I'm asking here in the forum again what I can do better.

Best regards
Robert

I asked the buyer for pictures of the damage, and he sent them to me. But for
me, this is exactly the condition I specified in the description.

I wouldn’t have called this 8/10, too much damage on the edges and specially
the front.
Giving a number is something I never did, it is different for both seller and
buyer, we all think differently about condition.
If I would mention a number it would’n be higher than 6. For me a netter condition,
like an 8, would mean just a few creases or a bit of edge damage.

It's not really an 8/10 (which to my mind would be synonymous with "Very
Good", especially with that tear on the front that isn't quite visible
in your original picture (it looks white rather than the color of the cardstock).

I describe condition with numbers like you and I have in my terms that I don't
accept any complain about ratings for instructions and boxes and buyer has to
request photos and if he doesn't, then his complaints won't be considered
justified. However, in most cases, when a buyer ordered an empty box or a a set
with box, I take multiple photos and send them to buyer and request them to confirm
the condition (unless I won't send it).
I take photos and upload them directly as a post on imgur dot com and give a
link to buyer. This is simpler and faster than attaching photos to an email.

We would also rated the box as an 8/10, maybe a good 7/10, but there's not
much difference. It's important to remember that this box is almost 20 years
old and was uploaded as used. A 5/10 is a very poor rating for this box.

If the buyer wants a box without these damages, then he should not buy a box
that is described with damages. Or at least request more pictures, as mentioned
in the description.

The seller's terms even state how he defines an 8/10, and that fits with
the box.

If the buyer wanted a flawless box, I can understand his disappointment, but
the seller described the box better than many other shops. Always read the terms
before you buy anything. I see no reason for bad feedback here.

The numbered ratings are always going to be subjective. When I sell an empty
box, I send photos of each side and close-ups of damage. That way there are no
misunderstandings.

As its subjective - no one is "in the right" here.

Seller thinks it's an 8/10 and buyer thinks it's an 5/10. Both are perfectly
right to there own believes.

The right thing to do as a buyer - if you are not satisfied with your product
and you absolutely don't want it - return to seller for a refund. Shipping
costs both ways will be your loss for having the opportunity to check the real
thing - and also the cost for not asking for more pictures.

But this won't happen.

Another perfect solution from the buyer is that even if he isn't satisfied
- accept that its a subjective matter and the seller and you has different measurements
abut quality. Keep the box, buy another one if you need and "punish"
the seller with no feedback at all.

This will probably not happen either.

Now how to act as a professional seller when running into picky buyers: Just
send a message: I'm sorry that quality wasn't up to description. I will
refund half the price and hop this helps. If wanting a full refund - please return
item and I will refund full item price except shipping costs".

Do the refund of half price.

Also consider full refund if it's small amount. Not worth the hassle of a
bad feedback.

Then move on and try not think about it anymore. Life is full of fantastic people
that deserves our thoughts and time - don't waste your energy over an empty
cardboard box and a picky buyer...
