I’ve been wondering for a long time why such an obvious difference between these
two “Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2” parts isn’t reflected in the catalog. A very noticeable
difference, and also quite easy (I believe) to identify in terms of production
period and set association. I stopped wondering about it when the distinction
between the different minifigure heads was removed from the catalog, that was
a bit disheartening for me, but that’s another story. I’m still curious to know
more about these slopes. My apologies if this topic has already been discussed
in the past, I probably just don’t have a good search method on the forum. Thanks
to anyone who might be willing to reply!

Hi,

There’s a note on

Part No: 3660 Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
*
3660 Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
Parts: Slope, Inverted
that says:
“This part has multiple variants of which some do not allow bars to be inserted
into the tubes and others have ridges inside the tubes to limit the depth of
bar insertion.”

Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s as easy as you believe to determine when the
different stud variants were produced/used.
