Are catalog administrators getting dumber and dumber?
This is harsh and uncalled for.
There is a wristwatch that has the number 4375 in the relevant catalogs and on
the label. Only in the Bricklink catalog can it be found under 4375ws. All four
other watches also have the same number in the Bricklink catalog as in the relevant
catalogs and on their labels. My request for a change was rejected on the grounds
that there is a duplo part with the same number.
The Inventory system cannot currently handle Parts and Gear that have the exact
same number.

4375 Duplo Support Sign Post Short - Thin Base Parts: DUPLO
If you want to call someone out, it's BrickLink which has a database issue.
The Catalog Admins are the ones who found a viable work around. Considering how
BL updates break stuff, I would much rather have this work around then any potential
disruptions to the Catalog system.
This is not just for the one part you noticed. It happens for every single part-gear
cross over that we have. It's getting worse since LEGO has started using
4 digit part numbers again.
Parts take precedence over other Catalog items, and that's the way it needs
to be right now.
Thanks,
~Jen
Hence the addition.
So if you only enter 4375, you run the risk of accidentally ordering the watch
instead of the duplo part?
If you only enter 4375, 7 duplicate parts and 1 s@h catalog are displayed. Only
one duplicate part has the number 4375, all the others have 4376xxx, and the
s@h catalog has the print number WOR 4375. So it makes no difference to classify
the wristwatch under 4375 as well!
the number being changed late was probably as thats when they found out it shared
the same number, so they fixed it by making it unique. it was 100% the right
call and the admins should be thanked for it, not get called names

It's not harsh and uncalled for!
16 years both, the part and gear had the same number! Until StormChaser changed
it.
First, Stormchaser is not currently an admin. Are you here calling people names
for an item number that changed in 2018?
Second, what part of my explanation of Catalog items not being able to share
exact Item Numbers do you need me to explain again?
Seriously, we can have this conversation and figure out the details and discuss
them but without the insults. Our admin are amazing and work very hard. Calling
them dumb only tells us about you, not them.

Where did I claim that StorchChaser is an admin? He only changed 4375 to 4375ws
in 2018.

From 2002 to 2018, it was apparently not a problem.

No, it wasn't. It became a problem at some point and the admin found a way
to still make things work.
You understand the difference between BrickLink and our admin yes? Our admin
can't change the behavior of our site or make any updates to it. They
are users just like us, but with a different set of tools.
It would seem they found an problem, found a way to work around it, and now are
getting called names for their trouble.
So, please yell at the correct people if you need to keep talking.

It is. The catmins are some of the hardest working folks around. They work
harder and produce higher quality work than a lot of the people who are actually
paid to keep BL running.
I'm pretty sure we may have just gotten rid of one boorish bully in this
forum (fingers crossed). We don't need you to fill the void left by a certain
frozen summer treat, so why don't you tone it down? Maybe you could even
apologize.

Unfortunately "apologize" is not in some people's dictionary. They
would rather stay quiet instead of showing some decency.
Niek.
I really wish it was only that bad. But in the world of today, doubling-down
is the new go-to response after making ignorant and foolish remarks. One need
only look down a few posts to see this behavior in the wild.

Why should I apologize for something that is true?

Why should you apologize for being a jerk? I really have to explain this? OK.
You see, when you go into a public forum and berate an entire group people over
a petty, personal grievance, that is generally considered by most mature people
to be rude. Most people have have a sense of shame and/or empathy that would
cause them to feel bad or embarrassed for doing such a thing. As a result, they
would probably feel compelled to offer up what is called by an “apology.” In
this way, they demonstrate that they still want to be a part of the group and
that they want to be taken seriously by the group.
Do you understand now?

I only see one jerk. That's you!
So, I guess you didn't understand. That is unfortunate. I did try to answer
your question. I'm sorry I wasn't able to explain things better for
you (see how easy it is to apologize?).
Oh yes, I have tried to order that Duplo part many times, but the sellers keep
sending me a watch part instead. The picture showed a watch part though, so
I don't know what I was thinking. I must be getting dumber and dumber.

just hit the catalog this
year and hasn't had the workaround applied yet. It didn't break my back,
but it IS annoying. Someone who remembers to search 5924* will find what they
are looking for, but it is much more likely that someone searching is looking
for the part.
