Often, before seeing a parrot (where it shouldn’t be one), the area is grey for
some time. So it seems to me that when it’s the parrot, it’s because it couldn’t
fetch the correct avatar and therefore fell back on the default.

Yep I've seen this gray square, must be quantum; the photon is too big and
modifies the measured phenomenon.
