I supposed you checked that there’s not any typo? Anything in the format that
could be rejected or expected (like dashes)?
Could that be a very new number that wouldn’t be in the database yet?

Mmmmh does it only accept UK VAT-ID? Isn't the VAT field for EU only?

"This setting is for EU, UK, and Norway sellers. BrickLink along with BrickLink
Sellers has the responsibility to ensure that we are VAT-compliant. "
I am having the same issue, I had my VAT ID successfully working for a few years
on BrickLink, but it was accidentally removed from the account when we were trying
to update the address.
Now it wont let me add it back on.
I got a generic message saying it is invalid contact local registration office
(HMRC).
I have done they say there is no issue and it is VALID
Contacted BrickLink support - no response. I have had to shut the store until
its resolved.
Were you able to get it resolved

AFAIU, UK has two different tax identification numbers. One is the traditional
GB123456789 for transactions within the EU (like still applicable in the format
XI123456789 for Northern Ireland only) and one is the UTR, a 10 digit number
for other tax related transactions.
The 9-digit XI123456789 EU one is probably still relevant for Bricklink, the
9-digit GB123456789 not since Brexit, and the 10 digit UK UTR code not or not
yet.

But Norway isn’t in EU, so having UK (or any country that uses the same rules
for their consumption tax as the EU) use the VAT mechanism on BL shouldn’t be
a problem.
